Juarez isn’t safe.

I was in CDJ numerous times a week when I lived there driving my car with Louisiana license plates as a gringo in a suit and never had an issue. In fact CBP was the only one who ever gave me a hard time.

I've never felt unsafe in CDJ. Like NOLA or any other big city in the US if the gang violence spills over at the wrong time you can get in a bad situation, but the petty crimes are at a minimum in CDJ.

Yeah but it’s a dry heat lol.

It is way more manageable than south Louisiana heat but man it can still kick your butt. I underestimated it in June and tried to walk a mile to lunch and thought I would die. Heat plus altitude plus slight incline is a dangerous combo.

Have they solved their rental car theft problems?

When I flew to west Texas, I had to sign papers that I was NOT driving to El Paso but staying in the Midland Odessa area because car theft was so serious closer to the border.

I've never had to sign anything when renting a car in El Paso

Best? Nah.

Cleanest? Yes. It was surprisingly spotless considering its essentially an extension of Mexico.

My FIL lived just across the NM border from El Paso for a decade. Went out to visit him for Thanksgiving 12 years ago and I loved it out there. Beautiful.

One of the most beautiful vistas in the country. Love how you can see Juarez in that first pic and how I-10 just abuts literally right against the border.

I went to college there and loved it. Did get to see a few Border Patrol chases through campus a few times which was always interesting.

Would move back if I could convince the wife. She hates the desert. Also, it was nice having this a couple of hours away for weekend trips.

This place was the place to hit after a night of drinking. If you could stomach Chico's Tacos without getting sick you knew you were going to survive the hangover in the morning.

We used to frequent the main drag in Juarez for the nightlife, but that was in the early 90's when it was relatively safe. No way I would do that now or recommend it to any college aged young person nowadays.

The RGV is unironically better than El Paso.

there are lot of outdoor rec opportunities fairly close by in New Mexico. Nearby mountains, BLM land, national forest etc. Good mountain biking, hiking, back packing, off roading, camping, fly fishing, climbing.

Dude, like 10% of the people on this board could hike two miles.

The RGV is the hottest place in the entire US, except maybe Phoenix. It’s miserable 80% of the year

It’s fine as long as you don’t have kids.

They are mostly not illegals. 1st or 2nd or 3rd gen.
The illegals go on to big cities in the middle of America where their low wage services are wanted. There are more than enough Hispanics in el paso to do those jobs, without having to bring in illegals.
Same with San Antonio.
Dallas and Houston have way more! Lol

There are probably more illegals around College station and the surrounding towns than in El Paso.

You have your forts confused. Hood is in Killeen which is the opposite of nice or safe. Bliss is in El Paso.

El paso sucks because it is not south Texas. It is not tejano. It is a weird mix of wannabe New Mexico, Mexico, and somewhat west Texas. The people are more Mexican than in any border town in Texas.
Unless you are fine with assimilating into the culture. I wouldn’t do it.
Del Rio would be a better place to live IMO. Much more American.
Still not a great place to raise your kids but the people of El Paso are not like the rest of Texas. RGV is 5x more American than El Paso is, which is saying something

I would rather live in las cruces, ruidoso, cloudcroft, Alamogordo, and probably even Santa Fe.
