Egyptian Actress Charged with "Inciting Debauchery"

Could Face Five Years in Prison
CAIRO — When an Egyptian actress strutted down the red carpet in Cairo last week, twirling and smiling in a revealing lace dress, she had hoped to turn heads in the movie world.
Instead, she now faces criminal charges that could potentially land her in prison.
Three Egyptian lawyers known for using the courts to engage in moral vigilantism filed a lawsuit against the actress, Rania Youssef, accusing her of wearing an outfit at the Cairo International Film Festival that constituted “incitement to debauchery.”
A trial has been scheduled for January, and Ms. Youssef, who is in her 40s, could face a possible five-year jail term if convicted.

Another reason why the United States should stay the hell out of that part of the world.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. I guess these are the people that are trying to break down the ridiculous customs in their countries, but I would never want to pave the way when I know the rules in my country would forbid such things. 5 years in prison isn't worth changing how my country thinks about sexuality. Can you imagine what they would have done to Janet Jackson after the wardrobe malfunction?
I mean, the US almost lost their minds.

While she is, in fact, guilty, I see no reason to put her in jail. Simple house arrest at my place would be punishment enough.
A solid 60 days of overwhelming disappointment is exactly what she deserves.

They should not have overthrown Mubarak. The Middle East has learned nothing since the Iranian Revolution.

It's Egypt. We should mind our own business.

I think she should counter sue them for attempting to deny her basic human rights. Maybe she legally can't do that there. It seems as if it may be time to go on offense instead of cowering down and taking the arse whipping that some douchebags think you have coming.

Yeah I know, but Iran was such a tragedy. It was once a beautiful place.

Is it just three lawyers or are they representatives of the state? Seems frivolous as all hell.

The US loves violence and gore and hides sexuality. That is a fact. Women in Europe go topless and nothing is thought of it. Here it would only be because of some liberal "We can be shirtless too!" feminist parade full of women no one wants to see topless.
