Educate me about moving to/living in St. Martinville

Recently, my wife found a house in St. Martinville that apparently we need to buy.
Can anyone tell me about living in the town? Is there ANY nightlife outside of biker bars? I heard the Wal-Mart in town closed down, which cannot be a good sign. My commute would be a little bit longer, but nothing extraordinary. Is there crime? serious, petty?
The house she wants to buy is awesome, so there is that, I just want to know about living in the area itself, on a day to day basis.

Small south LA town. If you are not from there you are looked at as an outsider. I would not move there. Where will you be working?

Good food around. Friend of mine owns a bed and breakfast there and somehow it stays packed.

I think haunted stuff is really cool. (unless you are talking klansmen, in which case that's a no from me dog).
Is it a haunted town? I don't know much about the history of the place outside of what I read on the google.

St. Martinville is a cool town to visit. However, there is not shite to do there and very few good restaurants. I would look at Lafaytte if y'all want entertainment.

It's like a lot of the older, small towns around Lafayette that have basically shriveled up and died over the past twenty years. Lots of white trash and poor black folk, a sprinkling of old money and absolutely no commerce.

As someone who lived there until I was 18, I would stay away. All of my family that is still there says it is just going downhill and is depressing now. After the Fruit of the Loom plant closed, then Wal Mart, there really is nothing left. The only people that are there are people that really can't move to Youngsville/ Broussard/ Lafayette. The only new stores coming up are horse betting places, dollar stores, tobacco stores...that should say it all. There is a reason that awesome house has a good price.

Zero chance I'd move out there and have to commute to Lafayette. River Ranch area to downtown is killing me

I live in Laffy now, close to downtown. I think I must surely know you in real life from some of the stuff you've posted.

not a bad place if youre looking to get out of lafayette
quiet, not too big plus if you really need to you got grocery stores in broussard and other family friendly activities near by
