I saw bits and pieces but an email I received had a link to a news article on this. This Routh guy was an armorer and never left safe compound in Iraq. He was sent to Haiti where he claimed to have been sent out to retrieve bodies from the earthquake. That was false. He went to Haiti but was an armorer. He never even saw a body.
People do not really know what ptsd is. Lawyers are blaming all kinds of acts on ptsd. Why did it just start? It didn't. My dad had ptsd from WWII. My neighbor, a Marine sniper, has ptsd. I know others that have it. Routh didn't.
You're preaching to the choir on all that, but I just wanted a little proof on Routh before I started spreading that notion far and wide. I've found some articles and so forth that explain more in detail.

Plenty of people and especially vets are dealing with PTSD. It's not an excuse for murder.
All this shite does is continue the stereotype of the crazy vet. It's funny how all these REMFs claim ptsd and do dumb shite like beat people up and kill people yet actual combat vets just get hammered drunk and take pills and want to kill themselves. Uncanny.

Like who?
I'm not about to google a bunch of shite for you, but I was reading about this guy yesterday. He was convicted of orchestrating a murder that happened in the mid 80's. He lived in a protective unit until he died in 2014. 99.9 percent of people never heard of this guy.

I'm pretty sure he did have depression, and obviously abused substances. The sympathy line is drawn at harming others. This is one case where suicide would have been the less selfish act. Pretty sad to think of it like that, but certainly his legacy would have been different.

I've got more than a few VN era friends that are poster kids for that, they've lived their lives with these demons, as have their families, with nothing to help them, some have done OK, most have tragic lives, you play the cards you're dealt

If we were a smart society, we would study the ever living hell out of people like Routh and other mental people who murder. That way, we can find ways to prevent further acts. Typing "fry him" and taking another pinch of skoal helps absolutely nobody

He is paranoid schizophrenic, there are mountains of data on cases like his. He needed psychiatric help and medication not booze and drugs
He is not sane in the classic sense but also he was not insane in the legal sense
The whole thing is just sad and a waste of human lives

i.e. the perfect Marine recruit?
ETA: only partially tongue in cheek, it's been a voluntary force for quite some time

Never should have admitted him
That being said he is responsible for his actions so let the punishment fit the crime

I don't know a single vet that uses PTSD as an excuse for anything.

We already have. That's why the jury could find him guilty. They proved to the jury exactly what is REALLY wrong with him.
