Frustrated crowd forms at BRCC as parents reportedly locked out of high school graduation

BATON ROUGE - Family members of graduating high school students became furious Friday evening after they were reportedly locked out of the venue at Baton Rouge Community College's campus.

Several parents reported being locked out of the Belaire High School graduation ceremony hosted at BRCC around 7 p.m. Friday. Most of the complaints claimed they were locked out of the building because the event had exceeded the building's maximum capacity.

Some witnesses reported that graduates were even walking out over the debacle.

BRPD and the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office both confirmed they were responding to the incident. The Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal has also been called to investigate.

We've reached out to the school system for comment. It says it's looking into the situation

I'm gonna bet they told the kids that they could have 4 guests and 20 showed up. Like they tell the guests to hold their applause till the end and no one listens.

BRCC’s gym isn’t big at all. Who’s idea was it to have a 4A size school graduation in that small place?

Isn’t all the other schools having theirs at the PMAC?

The old Lee HS used to hold theirs at the Centroplex back in the 90s, when they were 4A.

Same. They had to change the date of ours cause of the Olympic torch passing through BR. Had to insert little cards with the date change into all our invites cause they had already been printed with the original date.

I will assume the impacted family members were very reasonable and responsible in their response to this inconvenience.

Damn, I honestly can’t even remember where our graduation was. Tara High ‘02. I’m thinking maybe the PMAC but I really don’t have any recollection...and I wasn’t even wasted
