They didn’t pick one.
I went back and watched more of the meeting I initially missed. I will say this - I would have zero interest in being on that board if i were a resident of BR who did not send my kid to the public schools there. I’ve seen this phenomenon in other places. People who have school age kids and send them to private but sit on a school board. I guess there is an argument to be made re property values.
BRAC, the BR student alliance and the other special interest groups clearly put most these members up. Go read the news articles on how much was spent on last the last EBRPSS school board election. These groups want it both ways.
Having said that, these meetings are an indictment of the education system in so many ways.

BRAC, Walton Foundation, Gates Foundation all spent bg money to get these idiots elected.. Charter systems have all the members bought, they just fight over which charter companies will get all the money and profits. You have gerrymandered districts so a majority white board can govern and large black majority district. All the board members are actively trying to destroy the system to fully embrace the charters who don't give a shite about the kids and just want to profit off taxpayers. Teachers are stuck with parents who don't care and the board working against them. Narcisse was never qualified in the first place, had to create a six-figure job to do the part of his job he wasn't qualified for. The teachers like Adam Smith, and that scares the board. He's not in the charter's pockets...yet.

Something feels off. It seems like they have a 27-year veteran who has successfully worked his way up from teacher to principal to administrator, even serving as interim superintendent twice. The community and staff clearly support him, yet five board members are willing to damage their goodwill with these groups to deny him the opportunity. Politically, it seems really dumb. It's strange that they are doing this without clearly articulating why they are so against him. I could understand if they simply said they don't like working with him, but instead, they praise him yet claim he's not the right fit for the job. This inconsistency is likely why people are so upset—it just seems fishy. In Louisiana, this immediately makes people suspect corruption.

LOL as opposed to paying a single fricking dime for the shite show in EBR that has been taking place since the 70s? Do you even have a clue why the 4 surrounding school districts cannot keep up with the influx of people moving in or why the Baton Rouge population has been stagnant since the 80s?
Hint: It’s not the white flight your liberal parents taught you it was.

Carol Powell-Lewis (in the middle, bald head) basically ranted for 15 minutes about how she is not beholden to special interest groups but all the whites are. She did say the puppet masters are black folks, but they have been empowered by white money. So I guess they are middle management puppet masters.
Anyway, after she finished the rant the black board members came and hugged her and some of the community did also. The EBRSO deputies were just trying to keep order. Seems that this was her moment to grandstand and try to catch some viral moment. Not sure how that big guy got all the way back there as fast as he did. Like a ninja.
I'm just thinking that if they want Smith, give them Smith. At this point, does it really matter? Can it get much worse? It's already a disaster.
The issue moving forward is Gaudet said he is not voting for anyone that is a finalist or Smith (who is not a finalist). Thats 4-4-1 for just about any vote at this point.

I say give them whatever they want. You want shitty schools? You got it.
I just want this question answered- Why do they want Adam Smith so badly?? What's the catch? They are all ready to die on this hill, so why? Why is he a better choice?

I watched 16 minutes of that shite before I shut it down. These people are fricking retarded. The white lady who started it off said democracy was at stake. Give me a fricking break. Then the clown asses that followed basically talked out of their asses and never said anything concrete of why Smith was a better choice. And..... to say this was a racist process is just fricking ridiculous.
The parents that send their kids to EBR schools get what they deserve. Give them fricking smith. Who gives a shite.
I can't fathom why either of the two finalists would want to be a part of this shite show.

That chick from Boston is definitely trying to get to Denver or some shite after listening to that

four board members who did vote opted for Kevin George, director of the LSU Lab School in Baton Rouge, to be superintendent, but his candidacy fell one vote short. The other finalist, Andrea Zayas, former chief academic officer of Boston Public Schools, received no votes.
I wonder why

The charter system in New Orleans is far better than what was there prior.

Saw a quote from George saying he was going to consult with his family and go from there. If a vote isn’t made next week, I wouldn’t be surprised if he pulls out. School starts in a month, and there’s schools in limbo here.

What's the real situation with George? Lots of families pulled out of U-High for the coming school year. Is he well-liked there?

I have no idea. I’ve heard talk about there being issues in 5th grade & apparently 8th grade is having issues too but I haven’t heard exactly what the problem is. I know that 5th grade class has had behavior problems in previous years. I want to say a year or 2 ago all the boys of that class were suspended or something along those lines.
From what I gather George is liked, but I’m honestly not in the know about all that. I just send my kid to school there and stay out of the politics.
There’s other posters here that would have more insight.

I was impressed by the gentlemen who acknowledged George is black but remained committed to the Board being racist.

The teachers don't want the same candidate that the board wants so they are crying about it and disrupting the process.
Yes, the people you pay to teach your children are literally whining because they aren't getting their way. Now you know how we got here.

My daughter has been there since Kindergarten and is going into 9th this year. The only kids I've heard of being pulled out are the ones who are going to Catholic and St. Joseph's, but that was probably the plan for those families all along.
