I agree.

The Magnet programs in the city are excellent though - among the best schools in the state.

No . Not every last one of them . The magnet program is excellent.

Here is my proposal . Move to a three tier system.

1. Warehouse the violent and disruptive kids in "daycare schools" with roaming big burly faculty equipped with bats .

2. Normal schools for normal kids who may not light the world on fire but who aren't screwing over their classmates. Focus on vocational and job skills and offer them a clear path to the magnets .

3. Magnet schools for the smart and or aspirational ones .

Pour all the resources at the latter two and build razor wire fences around the first.

They may as well get used to them at an early age

I wish EBR would tier there students. Many countries already do. I hate that the kids in tier 2 and 3 get screwed over by the kids in tier 1.

I had a friend years ago who taught at Istrouma High in BR. This was probably late 90's. She was as lilly white as they come, but she was one of those teachers who "wanted to make a difference" at an inner city school. I admired her for that.

By the late 90's, Istrouma was 99% black. My friend said that basically 75% of the kids were decent human beings who just wanted to do right in the world and who wanted a chance...but it was the other 25% that fricked it up for everybody. The 25% only showed up to school to cause trouble, sell drugs, and fight people. Some only showed up once a month so their mom could get her welfare check. (I am not sure how that worked, but that is what my friend told me). The school had a hard time expelling kids for some reason, so the low-lifes stayed on the roster. My friend said that on any given day, there could be as many as 300 students absent in a school that had about 1200 kids at the time.

She told me stories that really broke my heart. She had a couple of girls who would come to school extra early and spend time with my friend because their home lives were so bad that they actually preferred to be at school.

So my point is, if we could somehow eliminate that bad 25% of assholes from these schools and let the kids who want to be something get their chance without the bad kids fricking it up, then we would be accomplishing something.

That's it right there. It's the tier two kids and their families that are getting SCREWED. That's where the focus should be. Screw the little violent predators- warehouse them .

Let me tell you who gets screwed in BR- parents who have to pay for private school and (predominately black) kids who just want a safe place to learn and progress. These " middle tier" kids whose parents can't afford private school should be immediate priority one.

The schools should be representative of the areas where they are located. There is no way that the Tara school district should have kids from Gus Young, Highland near Bluebonnet, Bocage and the University Club. The forced integration in the 80s had the opposite effect and it should be revisited but it won't. BR schools are more segregated than before John Parker's ruling

This is all white people's fault for some reason. Oh, and cops. Also you all are racist if you don't put your kids in public school.

It's time to get rid of PC SJW bullshite and get back to following law and order in society.

Exactly.....this echoes what I said in my post above. The vast majority of these kids want to do well, but the lower tier keeps them down.

You know, fights happen at every school.

How many schools last year had kids arrested for making terroristic threats? Believe Ascension had one or two. Zachary had someone taking pot-shots at it. Northside area had some threats.

Just saying.

That's it right there . The good poor black kids are so screwed . It's a national disgrace . And the real world key is getting the predators the frick out - in an unsentimental, no- nonsense way . No more of this " no child left behind" bs. Leave em as far behind as you can . You kick a kid in the head like these two savages and it's over.
