Throw in his son’s issues and going to work with his fraternity brother is lot more appealing than surrounding yourself with the council morons.

Not a bad guy, just a bad councilman. He served three terms and is retiring now because he is term limited.
Famous for missing key votes over three terms for some reason he decides to throw in with the Dems and vote to have the C-P ignore the advice of the C-P attorney and give away 5 million dollars just because.
He can’t go soon enough.
Oh and he sides with the Dems today and blocks commerce. The guy is horrible.

And settlements are what he knows, his frame of reference. And it’s not his Monopoly money. So of course he gets liberal with other people’s money. It’s what ‘bambulance chasers are good at.
ETA: and Dems.

If the ATC says the bars are free to open, who cares what the metro council says. Who is going to enforce it? As long as you close by 11, I don't think anything can happen to you.

He represents a mainly Republican district, calls himself a Republican, and now he sides with the Dems. He is obviously moving left to profit in the ambulance chasing business it seems.
I’m guessing he backed JBE too.
He can’t leave office soon enough.

The point is the governors mandate put the parish governing body to decide. That’s the metro council in EBR. ATC can give the thumbs up but they are a federal agency. ABC is the local agency that can shut down bars because the metro council didn’t authorize them to open yet. Will that happen? No. But it’s a political pissing match between mayoral candidates.

It’s also racial. Because everything is racial.

“I have some concerns for the community’s health,” Green said later about her decision not to participate in Wednesday’s vote. In East Baton Rouge Parish, 56% of the COVID-19 deaths are among the parish’s Black residents, a share of the viral toll that is about 22% greater than African-American’s representation in the parish population, state health data show.
That’s why the black members no-showed. They think opening bars so white folks can go drink in public will kill black people. This is the mentality of the Democrats as a whole. Keep everything shut down for ‘as long as it takes’.

then show up and vote against it, you spineless coward. this "no show, no vote" should be grounds for immediate recall, at minimum

Yep, this is what gets me about it. You want to vote no because you're worried about your constituents or they told you they don't want to re-open? Fine, that's your job. Just show up and vote.

so, was this all a plan to make broome the hero a month before the election?
Posted on 10/1/20 at 7:58 am to MorbidTheClown
Seems likely. Metro council doesn't get their vote done so Broome, who actually doesn't have the authority, can step in and claim she re-opened bars.

Just the other day in the debate Broome claimed she was a leader who could build a consensus and reach across the aisle and get things done. Well yesterday her people thumbed their nose at her.

It is sad while it makes the Mayor look good it is the right decision to help businesses owners.
The problem all residents of EBRP should care about is our disfunctional government.
In the last 60 days.
- lost the ability to get a free tire shredding machine which helps control blight in the parish. Let’s see they could not put it by the landfill, so when the dedicated solid waste bulk trucks come by they could drop off the tires.
It also could have been located in the same spot EBRP residents are allowed to dump their bulk trash at the landfill making it more convenient for residents also.
- Now that Governor JBE has allowed the parishes to decide to open up bars failed to allow legal tax paying businesses to open.
Once the virus money dries up and taxes come in next year they are going to have to make even tougher decisions.
Will they cut staff and or services is one option or raise taxes another option.
Does anyone who watched the council so far this year believe they can handle some tough parish financial decisions coming soon?
