So they annexing businesses on Siegen now? Let's see, pay protesters, give our tax dollars to crooked COA, now this. Way to cave to the vocal minority members on the council.

The business owners asked to be Annexed.
What's your problem with this?

Part of the city's desperate attempts to stop St. George from forming. Annex as much economically developed land as you can to prevent tax revenues from going to St. George.

Eventually all of the unicorporated EBRP will be incorporated. The small Fire districts will eventually no longer be able to survive and services the unicorporated neighborhoods receive will suffer especially if they have to support incorporated areas. The powers to be will do everything to keep St George from incorporating and they will incorporate all the commercial areas. At the same time they will eventually destroy BR at the same time as it will outgrow what it can financially support.
Eventually this area will have to incorporate into the city for services to survive financially. Everyone's taxes will go up as the city will be spread out over a large area and have to service this area with fire hydrants, City Fire Dept, City Police, Constable's office, City court will have to grow to handle the growth.
As far as just taking in businesses they did that in the 1970's and 1980's. They took Florida Blvd East and businesses on each side. They left out the neighborhoods like River Oaks, Stevendale, etc.

All of those businesses....parking lots....shopping centers....will be patrolled by a SWB-controlled Police Department.

Are they going to annex any residential land? Just curious. I don't think they've done that for a while.

from what somebody has posted in the past, this would violate the VRA by diluting the black vote in BR

Residents have to request to be annexed. The area between Brightside and New Casino requested to be annexed and included homes. I think one resident was holding out.

It's ok. They are making it easier and easier for THE GREAT CITY OF ST GEORGE to pass.
Believe me, it will pass sooo easy this time.

I mean the details as to why they want to be annexed. Seems to me that fire protection would be one of their biggest concerns as a business. Why would they want to abandon something like that?
There's something fishy about this that makes me think there's a cloakroom deal going on.

Maybe not.
How will the city get funding if all these big business areas get annexed?
Don't think industrialplex won't look into being annexed either.
It's all going to come down to taxes to fund the city. I don't think homeowners will incorporate if they will be taxed more than they are now.
That's why you see these businesses running to BR. SG fricked up royally by saying they could find it based on taxing them, and now that talks of incorporating have revved up again, Seigan Village is now asking to be annexed so SG can't trap them against their will.

I have no problem, it's s question BR citizens should be asked. Annexations will dilute their services if not properly addressed. They should make sure they are.

I have no issue with this. If a property owner wants in the city, he has every right to request to be annexed.
Now the same principle applies to those in an unincorporated area. If they wish to stay unincorporated, or if they want to decide to form their own city that's their right too.
It should work both ways.

BRFD had a higher rating than SGFD.
Pretty sure that's still the case.
