re: EBR Family Court Experience
I am going through a terrible and I mean terrible divorce now have have been to that court 8 times in the last 16 months. It F’ing sucks. My only saving grace is a judge that hates BS and will not tolerate one side being and arse just because......

Still F’ing sucks though

re: EBR Family Court Experience
The entire process is an expensive circus. That's the best explanation I can give. In the end, I got my 2-2-5 schedule though and pay no child support. It just took a year and a half and somewhere around $15 grand to get there.

Judge Pam Baker doesn’t like BS.

And Karen Downs is an outstanding attorney if she will take your case. I’ve heard great things about her partner Vincent Saffiotti but can’t speak to having personal experience with him.

Same. It’s such an incredibly depressing place. Everyone looks stressed to the max, worn down and generally just defeated. I’ve seen people being carried out in hysterics, crying and pleading with the judge. Watched a man be arrested and taken back for not paying his child support and he broke down crying saying he hasn’t been able to keep a good job. It’s just a very sad and stressful environment and I don’t know how people work in that field.

Mwah!

But seriously.....I think it's better to part ways than have any kids see a badly dysfunctional relationship.

A semi competent lawyer could make a damn fine living handling family cases in EBR (and I’m sure other jurisdictions). I’m just not sure how you can have any decent quality of life after doing that job everyday.

re: EBR Family Court Experience
None of that offends me.

Leaving was 1000 times harder than staying. My life looked absolutely picture perfect from the outside and I have myself to blame for that. I was raised thinking that if I had the perfect looking life, then life was going to be perfect. I cannot get into the specifics but I knew if I didn’t leave I would die in that marriage before 35, in a number of different ways and none of which were going to be good. It was having my little girl that pushed me. I knew I couldn’t raise her to be a strong woman, claiming that I was a strong woman, while leading a fake life and numbing out to the reality of what my life really was. Anyone who read the papers would consider me the victim, and maybe I was to a degree, but victim mentality didn’t get me through the hell that was my divorce and it won’t get me through raising these crazy children

Everybody talks about Karen Downs. I had her for my child custody case. What makes her good is her connections and she knows a lot of the judges and has experience with them. I would say Vincent is actually better. Karen is overpriced for how much admiration she gets as a lawyer.

If you are a normal father you will basically get the same thing using a reasonably priced lawyer as you will someone like Karen. She didn’t do anything spectacular for me and I should have saved money and went with just as good of a lawyer at a lower price.

re: EBR Family Court Experience
Maybe so but I was not dealing with a normal situation. I needed every bit of her advice, expertise and skill. My case in and of itself was very winnable, but I don’t come from money... and when you’re up against that, you may deal with someone who’s only defense is to bleed you dry until you concede. She didn’t let that happen and went hard in the paint from the jump. Turns out that was the strategy necessary to protect myself and children, and thank God she knew better than I did. Her foresight was what impressed me most throughout the process.

re: EBR Family Court Experience
While it's always arguable as to who is the best family law attorney to hire in Baton Rouge, Nancy Sue Gregorie is another who should definitely be in that conversation.
