EBRPSS Central Office.

Those who wield the Power in the Central office will pretend that there is no problem for problems that have been festering for decades. I would rather drive for Republic (garbage pickup) than drive a school bus in louisiana.

It is a part time job that the Central Office tries to claim that there is no such job, sort of whistling while walking past a Graveyard. It is a tough job, imagine driving a huge yellow box full of middle school kids who open the back door while you are driving 45mph down Jefferson Hwy or while you are cruising down Plank Rd. a kid in the back of the bus hurls a D cell battery to hit your windshield or kids stuffing their weed and pistols into the stuffing in the back of the seats.

Point is that the Central Office has ignored this problem for decades and the present Economy has turned it into a 5 alarm fire.

Got a call this morning at 7:15 this morning that the buses weren't coming because of sick out. Luckily, we bring our kids to school, but i'd be pissed if my kid was waiting outside for the bus and we don't get notification until 7:15 am.

They need to fire every single one of those lazy fricks.

But seriously, just give them a raise.

How does that solve the problem that the bus drivers don't want to have to drive to catholic schools?

Just now reading that the fricking bus drivers got a $9500 stipend last night, and they still conducted their sick out and one of the lazy uneducated pieces of shite union workers stated something to the effect of "if you don't give us more than that, a lot more strikes will happen".

quote:

Veteran driver Shannon Lewis warned of big consequences of not doing a permanent pay raise. She noted that a driver quit during Thursday’s board meeting and more are likely to follow soon after if the board failed to approve a permanent pay raise.

“If you don’t give us more money, that’s what’s going to happen,” Lewis said.

FIRE EVERY SINGLE ONE THAT WENT ON STRIKE

BR Bus drivers right now

Check that, bus drivers got $14,000 check last night and the useless idiots still went on strike.

quote:

Also Thursday, the board agreed to pay an extra $3,000 to all paraprofessionals in the district. On the first day of school on Aug. 9, there were 79 vacancies for paraprofessionals.

quote:

The average pay for bus drivers in Baton Rouge is about $22,000. A 40-year veteran makes $31,150. Surrounding districts tend to pay considerably more, with some starting bus drivers making $30,000 to $35,000 a year.

So, let's say the mean average is 26k/year to drive a bus. Not only did they significantly get a raise last night, but add that to the fact that they work what, 4 hours/day? 20 hours/week and they work what maybe 9 months out of the year not including off time for holidays?

$26,000 / (40 weeks x 20 hours/week = 800 hours/year = $32.50/hours

Throw on top a 50% raise last night so

$26k + 14k = $40k/year / 800 hrs = $50/hour

A low skilled, extremely part time bus driver was making $32/hour and with the stipend now makes $50/hour and the no education low skill job that they chose to take, they want to go on strike to make more? Go work for UPS.

Fire them all and private contract out the job. It will be cheaper and you'll have better quality.

Let them take PTO until it is exhausted and then issue every one a pink slip on the first day absent after that. Then give their replacements raises.

Doesn't seem like there are any replacements. That's their main bargaining chip.

Why would a “veteran” driver make so much more than the rookie? They are doing the exact same job.

Easily replaced if you put out a wanted ad for the job.

Flexible hours
Starting pay = $32/hour
Pay Range = $32 - $50/hour
Full benefits = medical/dental
Pension!
Part time
Holidays, weekends off
No education required.

These bus drivers only work part-time, and they get full benefits just like teachers, retirement, tenure, etc.

It's a great job for a retired person or side-gig.

It's not a full-time job and it's not meant to be.

I saw 3 buses driving around empty this morning. I guess we still get to pay for that gas.

Easily replaced? Who wants to be tied down five days a week driving kids around town in this traffic? Who wants to do that and somehow maintain discipline on the bus?

Flexible hours? No way. Everything is on schedule.

Pay is 32 dollars per hour. Not bad. Does that include retirement and health insurance? I see it does. That’s good too.

No education required? Really?

I’m not in favor of a strike, but I sympathize with the drivers who have to put up with the kids, the heat and the traffic. Frankly I wouldn’t do it. It’s too great of a responsibility fir the money.

Seems to be a major problem all over the country.

Because the schools have removed any ability to discipline from the bus drivers. The kids can do whatever they want, then the bus driver has to report to the office.

What the morons on the advocate and the drive by media are posting is the lump sump pay amount. "They only get 22k/year", nevermind the $14k that just got approved last night for them. Ok, break that down to hourly pay, plus benefits. Put that on a help wanted sign with just the facts of the pay/benefits/hours. Watch how many people apply for the job.

These bus drivers lack perspective. It's a job you can easily do part time. You can get another job to fill the 6 hour gap and make a very good living. How many of these bus drivers have a second job? I'd be willing to bet these people aren't go getters looking to provide for themselves. However, they are low information types that just want a "living wage" which ironically doesn't pay as well as being a bus driver in EBR.

Someone who wants to make $30-50 an hour working part time 20 hours/week.

They got a 6 hour gap between shifts. More flexible than any private sector job.

Really. You need a CDL and pass a background check. Minimal requirements for such a high paying job. Pipe fitters, laborers, roofers require more skill than a bud driver and don’t get paid as much, nor do they have benefits.

So the strike isn’t about money, but about public schooling guidelines. Maybe that’s what they should be demanding and not “give me more money”.

The average teacher in EBR makes 49K plus per year. More per other reports.

So with the approved stipend from last night, the average bus driver make more than the average teacher (hourly rate + benefits).

A big perk of being a teacher is when you fight a kid there are usually other teachers around to help out. When you are a bus driver you got to fight these kids on your own. I don't know if you've seen this latest batch of kids but they ain't getting any smaller.
