That looks unconstitutional.

DON'T leave your dogs in the car.
So say there is something Illegal in your car. Does that give them a reason to obtain a warrant or do they not need one since your door is unlocked?

I thought it was an OK idea at first, but then realized they would be flagging everyone's cars to get broken into.
Not to mention, I don't want a cop snooping around my shite for no reason. If you're dumb enough to leave your car unlocked, I'm sorry. Too many POS in this world to leave your vehicle or home un locked while away.
Waste of resources. Go focus on more important things like violent crime.

I'm all for them trying to prevent break in's and educate those dumb enough to leave their vehicles unlocked. The only part I don't understand is leaving a failed notification on the vehicle. That makes zero sense

Jackson PD did something like this during Christmas. I left a bag in the truck and I came back to a flyer on my windshield that said, "I could have broken into your car had I been a thief. - JPD".

This is almost definitely the real reason for doing this in the first place.
"Oh, we opened your door doing a security check and smelled weed. That lead us to probable cause to go ahead and search your vehicle."

They can get around the "FAIL" flags by just putting the flyers in envelopes BTW. Passerbys will not know if it is a pass or fail.
What if said officer sees weed in my car that he only could have seen by opening the door? Or smells weed he wouldn't have smelled without invading my privacy?
What if my dog is in my backseat and jumps out when he opens the door and gets hit by a car or the cop reacts to the lunging dog? (I always leave my dog in the car when I go into the grocery store if the weather is nice and I can crack the windows. Talk about a burglar deterrent haha)

So leave a bag of oregano in your car and burn some hemp.

They do things like this in the suburbs around Dallas. They don't actually search your car, just check to see if it would be an easy target for thieves. You can stop with all the 4th amendment complaining... if you have unlocked doors or valuables in plain sight, and someone tells you about it they are helping you, not violating your rights. Now if they actually searched through your car, that is a different story entirely.

Sounds like your dog will get shot.

"Oh you know - just checking for unlocked doors to tell you whether you "passed or failed"...
But while we're here, let's just dig around your consoles and cupholders a little bit. Maybe look around in the ashtrays and let the drug dog have a pass - it's for your own good though. Really. I swear..."
This is fricking horrifying. If this is legit, it's time for Sid to GTFO. Seriously. I'm not a big fan of the ACLU but I'm sure they'll be here in a jif.

keep them doors locked

They are doing this so it is easier to kill dogs.
I always leave my doors unlocked but that is because i don't leave valuable shite in my jeep and locking the doors does no good if all you have to do is slice a back window to get in

How long before the first double murder where a cop shoots to death a person who catches them in the act and gets upset?
