Ebay Seller Fees

Is it just me or have they gone up drastically in recent years? I sold something for $88. I had to pay $8.80 in fees to Ebay and $4.17 to Paypal. Add $20 in shipping fees and that $88 turned into $55.

Ebay is now a flat 10%, PayPal is 3.2%

Sounds like Paypal went up. eBay was traditionally 12%, or 9% if you're a Top Rated Seller.
That Paypal commission is a hair over 4%, up from 3%. And of course shipping always goes up.

Craigslist has killed eBay so eBay probably charges more

PayPal used to be $.30 plus 2.5% of the sale

And eBay owns PayPal. So, you're actually paying them twice.

It is no longer for non-professional salesmen. No way anyone could make money on one off sales.

Paypal and Ebay are both ridiculous. Facebook marketplace is by far the fastest way to sell something nowadays.

Agree. I quit selling stuff on ebay. It ended up costing me too much. Was not worth it.

Facebook marketplace seems pretty good. Sold a lens yesterday on it.

Not anymore. eBay spun off PayPal a couple of years ago, and $PYPL has fricking soared.
For items selling for $100 or more, I'm usually able to get combined eBay/PayPal/shipping fees between 15-20%.

Paypal is 2.9% plus 30 cents. Not seeing how you paid $4.17

Paypal has the worst customer service if you want to dispute a charge. I had to wait 4 weeks before I could dispute a charge despite the seller's account being shut down due to excessive fraud. They said "estimated arrival is up to 4 weeks so you must wait".

eBay also charges a shipping fee if you charge shipping to the bidder. Why would they do this? They don't control what the post office charges. They make a fee for a lister charging shipping. How ridiculous.

Try disputing PayPal as a seller. The seller always loses, there's no discussion. PayPal told me I should consider it the cost of doing business, I haven't used them since.

Yea I think it's terrible that eBay takes 10% of the shipping costs too. That's obviously not marked up so you're getting screwed there.

eBay doesn't charge a separate fee for shipping; it's just that they don't exclude shipping from their 10% fee. Back when they did exclude shipping, people would game the system by undervaluing the item and greatly overvaluing the shipping. That doesn't work anymore.

No I just checked my fees under the account tab and there is clearly a final shipping fee and final value fee. Separate from each other.
