East Baton Rouge Sheriff Alarm Fee

Is this just a racket or what? For some reason I have a problem paying this fee, even though it is small. Seems like a money grab.

Just get an alarm and you don't have to pay it.
I don't understand how on earth someone in BR could live in this town without one.

You want them to show up when your alarm goes off?

Everyone in the parish with an alarm has paid it

I am usually against extra fees and taxes, but I also understand it doesn't come close to covering the amount of false alarms they have to respond to.

Totally. Your alarm goes off. They respond then have the nerve to charge you a nominal fee for responding because your stupid alarm went off.
Here's what you do. When you get home, ransack your house and call them back out and say "See, it wasn't a false alarm! look at my house!" Then file a fraudulent insurance claim and chill.

Most police departments charge a similar fee.

no need for an alarm when I have a pack of pit bulls roaming the yard. neighborhood kids stay out too

Go to your local restaurant and see if you don't notice two or three cops shooting the shite. That's what you property taxes pay for. The alarm fee if for them to respond to your alarm.

A friend got a call saying his alarm was going off in Kenna-brah. He told them he wasn't home so it wasn't "false", but he would be there in less than 5 minutes. The police never showed up.
He called the Kenner Police Department and they told him that they weren't required to respond to an alarm, but they provide it as a courtesy if they have patrol units available.

That's effin great.
WTH does lazyasses do all day? Take turns dragging that broken-down, unmanned cop car to new locations to irritate people that have real jobs?

Pisses me off every time I see that thing. You would think they would put a real manned car out at some point but, instead, it is always the decoy.
BTW, the "fee" in Baton Rouge is unclear to me since you ALSO get a fine if they respond to more than one or two false alarms. Seems they would do the job I pay property taxes for, you know catching actual burglars, and then charge me a fee if I have a false alarm. I guess they are front-loading us for the one or two free responses?

You mean eating lunch or dinner? HOW DARE THEY!!! 12 plus hours with no food, you prob couldn't go 4 without mfing someone on that job.

I'm kinda on the fence about this one. I understand how many false alarms police officers respond to but I also understand that police officers are paid to protect lives and property avid responding to an alarm can help with that. Most alarms are false, but I never responded to with that thought in my head. Police officers also catch a lot of thieves with valid alarms
