The statue represents a composite of Confederate soldiers who died in the Civil War and has stood right in front of the courthouse since 1909.

Never knew it was a composite of all the dead and is a monument in memory of all those who died. That certainly changes the racist angle a lot for me.

95% of the people didn’t know that statue was there until they were told to be offended by it

Wife and I were in NOLA several years ago when Mitch the Bitch first began talking about removing Confederate statues. Cab driver (black) picks us up from hotel in Garden District and I straight out asked him as we approached Lee Circle if the statue of Robert E. Lee bothered him. His response was: "I never paid that statue no mind til they told me to be offended by it".

We can’t erase history to fit the current society’s view on issues. Let the markers and monuments stand not as symbols of suffering and racism but as reminders of our past of what not to be. History has a way of repeating itself. Keeping the Civil war history alive serves as a reminder of how messed our ancestors had our great nation and a portion of it broke away to from its own country. Let the monuments and statues stand as a reminder that we need to stand together and be one united nation under god and that it’s ok to have different views on things. But without these reminders, we will easily repeat the mistakes that our ancestors made and have a divided nation again.

Worrying about a statue in a failed shithole like East Feliciana is akin to straightening deck chairs on the Titanic as she is sinking.

No one in the world should want to fight an American soldier, especially Americans.

The Civil War was devastating on both sides. It's worth learning about.

Unless your view is the statutes should come down. Cause then we might have to talk about the war on our nation going on now and how everyone’s traitors.

95% of pro-statue people didn't know either.

So why do you care about keeping it now?

Yeah..
This is where it should stop.

New Orleans has zero relationship with Bobby Lee.. so that's fine.. take it down.. really won't change my life.

But just a simple soldier memorial to the ones that died (which, im willing to bet were .01% slave owners).

That just seems like a respectful memorial. Can't completely pretend people didn't lose family.

Now... im wondering is there even a memorial for just the names of Germans that perished during WWII or did they just say..."nope, never happened"

I’m going to go out on a limb and guess there aren’t any memorials to Nazis.

There are. Camp-sized memorials.

Difference is they aren't celebrated.

Plenty of deaths don’t get a statue and we still are aware and acknowledge them.

Because it is there.

We don't need libtards telling us to tear it down.

That seems kind of crazy though..
I can see where they were 100% the baddies.

But not one blank onyx gravestone for soldiers that just fought bravely?

There has to be some respect for the ones that were just doing their duty.

Funny...that's the main reason they want to tear it down.
