So every time, for every car and truck I own, I have to blow in a tube before I can start my damn vehicle?

Screw that crap.

And DUI isn't just alcohol...

DUI laws in this country are a joke. It should be attempted murder. Thank the politicians, mostly Republicans. Bush one changed the legal limit law in Texas to protect his drunk kid.

A lot of people don’t realize Canada treats it in the same category as murder, and picking one up will lead to a nasty surprise at the border when you get denied entry.

You can maybe get paperwork to let you by, but you gotta do your homework on it.

If you pick up two, you are basically banned from ever going.

I’m a man, you obviously are not since you’re supporting, making a joke supporting ‘good kids’ drinking and driving. No difference in them and a dindu do.

Geez Louisiana is so f’ing trashy.

In most places, alcohol and drug use while driving arrests are lumped together statistically as Driving Under the Influence.

Not saying we don't have a lot drunks on the road, but you're right, it's dopers, too.

My question is simple. Why not require a person to actually stop drinking vs having simple ways around it?
they do that’s one of the first things the judge will tell you no use of any drugs or alcohol while in probation we want you to have a clear mind. He also got the breathalyzer in his car, meaning you can Only drive a car that You have a breathalyzer in, no cheating that one, and if you try to drive after less than 24 hours after your last drink good chance you will fail, resulting in more time with it plus fees or even a probation violation for drinking, those come with a camera now too so you can’t have someone else blow for you… so I’ve heard.

Do these systems also check for impaired driving from being high, or driving while female or Asian?

No one has really disclosed how these systems will work, but I’d imagine it’s focused on making a judgement by attentiveness to the road.

Not really. People just don't agree with you.

Based on what you wrote, your buddy's experience is for a first offense DWI. That may not be the typical experience for a multiple offender in your state.

As I stated in my previous response, the probation is related to not drinking and driving rather than simply not drinking. If your buddy offends again, then the court may decide he has an issue that requires addressing the drinking alone.

The real impact comes with the third offense in Louisiana, which is a felony. The hope is that the cost and inconvenience of the first offense will curtail future drinking and driving events without creating a tremendous burden on someone who was not involved in an accident and maybe barely exceeded the limit.

Another issue with addressing first time offenders as stringently as you propose is that currently, they do not have enough probation officers to do an adequate job for the parolees they have to deal with in the system now, and many of the ones they have now are at the point of not caring about their jobs (if they ever really did).

Now if only they could find a way to make people put the goddamn phones down!
they have the technology to monitor for that, just ask some truck drivers or Amazon drivers, they get flagged if their eyes look away for a second I’ve heard.

Somehow the habitual offenders get 1st time DWI treatment OVER AND OVER AND OVER. You will see someone with 8 DWI's being treated as a first timer. It’s fricking ridiculous.
correct this can happen if they are spread out 10 years apart I know a guy who has 3, 1st offenses kinda crazy.

You can and do have to give up rights for the privilege of probation, it is in lieu of sitting in a jail cell.

there is no room for DWI cases in jail. The state couldn't justify locking you up for first offense DWI even if they wanted to.

Heck you could fail multiple piss tests for drinking and they'd have to let you slide. It's a waste of money to even put people through that.

You better tell your “friend “to check that again. He better not be caught driving a car without an interlock device.

or getting rides

What’s wrong with this? It’s literally what he should have done instead of getting a DWI. And what do you think he would have to do if he was completely banned from driving? Do you think he shouldn’t be allowed as a passenger in a car?

That makes total sense- almost as much sense as choosing a leader based on what some guy in a completely different country said. You can really tell that Canadians are deep thinkers, and not a bunch of boring louts with stupid, useless laws and no identity of their own.

Again, please read OP. My point is, it is very easy to get around the system. OBVIOUSLY, it’s against his probation, but my point is the system they create is a fricking joke. As for drinking but allowing others to drive you…that’s Illegal too under probation. Just don’t get caught. The courts really don’t care. They just want $$
