Dumbest thing your employer does?

Mine does a lot of dumb things, but I have to say the dumbest is having approximately 2000 people go out two exits in the case of a fire emergency.
I literally have a door that's about 20 yards from me I could go out, but instead they want us to go more into the building and walk about 200 yards to one of the two main entrances so we can all be accounted for in the parking lot.
This requires going through multiple doors (some badge locked that people don't have access to), a cubicle maze, and converging with a mass hoard of others going out the same door. All while passing multiple other exits.
It would be like the station fire, just need some Great White playing.

In my old office building we had to walk down to the basement to go outside for fire drills. I always said if there was a real fire I'm taking the fastest exit, which is getting out on the first floor and going out one of the umpteen exit doors.

Hiring and promoting people based on their race and gender.
Spoiler alert: White males need not apply.

Marketing tells sales what to do instead of sales telling marketing what they need in order to sell the products. It’s completely backwards.

If there is an actual emergency, use the closest exit.

Meetings, meetings, and more meetings. Pointless.
Other than that I love my employer

Oh, I will.
But our fire alarm goes off regularly by accident and we get a lecture if we don't follow the fiery death march plan.

Set the fire after everyone goes home for weekend. Don't forget stapler.

How do you know it's a drill and not the real thing?
You might want to invite the Fire Marshal over and "accidentally" pull a fire alarm.
ETA: Having a rally point is great, but everyone should use the fastest route out of the building and then proceed to the rally point.

I had the same problem with my last company, so when I broke off and started my own, I instituted stand up meetings. No chairs, no conference table, no donuts, kept it brief.

Exactly, we don't ever know if it's a false alarm or not.
I've thought about sending the fire Marshall a little letter about it.

Here’s my advice…… in case of emergency, use the door 20 feet from you
