Poor girl. But it’s not like they are going to throw the kidney in the trash. I’m guessing another poor girl/boy will receive the kidney.

Honestly, I’d prefer the kidney go to natural
born American citizens first.

I am a transplant recipient and yes there are lots of transplant centers still doing this. The thought process behind it is that you are immunocompromised after surgery and they don't want to risk a patient getting Covid and dying (if that's even happening with the current strain) afterward. The see it as not risking wasting an organ.

There are a lot of requirements to get transplants because there aren't unlimited organs, and they have to make sure the recipient is doing everything to not waste it.

This one seems ridiculous, however. Maybe if she was a very at-risk person for COVID (overweight, asthmatic, etc.).

Then they turn around and put an unvaxxed unhealthy rich Saudi at the top of the list because he pays $$$, like Ochsner was doing not too long ago.

A little more to the story. Apparently she has time:

quote:

Hicks said her family will continue fighting for her daughter and are now seeking a transplant center that will not require Yulia to receive the Covid shot.

Yulia is not in imminent danger. But receiving a transplant outside North Carolina, where she lives, will add to the expense and complexity of the transplant, further disrupt her life and potentially add to the risks she faces by interfering with her routine of home dialysis. The Hickses – who have eight biological and three adopted children – are now trying to raise $25,000 to help pay for the additional expenses of traveling for a transplant.

“We were hoping that they would come around,” Chrissy Hicks said. “But from the beginning they have pushed it on us.”

Despite this new challenge, Yulia remains optimistic, Chrissy said.

“She’s the happiest child I’ve ever met in my life,” she said.

It is the standard of practice to have any future transplant recipient be vaccinated against any and all things possible before receiving said transplant and subsequently immunosuppressive medication. Yes the COVID vaccine is controversial in this regard, but some of the comments in this post are just ridiculous and politicize a purely medical issue

ight. And find another doctor because this doctor is giving COVID brainwashed propaganda excuses to not provide the transplant.

Maybe this is a charitable case and she has no where else to go.

Hopefully some surgeons worth a shite will see this and take her on as a patient

Complete middle finger they're doing to the Hippocratic Oath.

frick those fricking fricks. Hope that girl's family sues the frick out of their evil asses.

And like some of yall earlier stated, if it's a sex change operation, this dumb hospital would be on that immediately.

not sure how the whole transplant system works but, go to another hospital?

With more googling...

The good news is, awareness of this story has allowed the family to raise over $29K on GiveSendGo. This exceeds their goal of $25K. Looks like she will be able to afford to go to another hospital. A hospital with common sense.
