Just drove in from Mississippi. On both I55 and I12, people were driving with hazard lights on and occupying both lanes of traffic. The slow pace in the rain caused a back-up of cars and created a hazardous situation given the wet road. Drivers should be aware that this practice is both unlawful and in my opinion dangerous. With all the flashing going on, it's hard to tell when brakes are applied in traffic ahead. Just wanted to vent about this.

Weekly thread. People that drive with hazards during rain events need to be spun out into the guard railing in the median.

I hate this thread. It happened like a month ago and there are plenty of people on both sides of this issue.

It should be done if you are driving below 40 on the interstate due to inclement weather.

I don't personally understand hitting hazard lights unless it's BAD outside but I imagine parents with toddlers or children aren't gonna give a shite about you and your wants if it means sacrificing their idea of some more safety.

"chances are you're one of the drivers speeding in and out of traffic because you're a badass who doesn't need to obey the laws of the road."

Sorry xxKylexx.. wrong on both counts. I AM thinking about that mother with kids. If it's that BAD, then pull off the road and wait it out instead of creating a bumper to bumper traffic jam in the rain. There's a reason it's illegal to drive with hazards on.

At a minimum, they can get their slow arse in the slow lane. Hazards and driving slow in the fast lane is kind of a thing for morons.

There shouldn't be. There is only one way to actually drive, and that is without your hazards.

Adding your hazards doesn't do a damn thing except confuse drives when you're not actually on the shoulder. Put your hazards on and pull off the road or keep them off and drive. One or the other.

FWIW: It is against the law to drive with your hazards light on in Louisiana. Period.

If it's bad enough to scare you into putting hazards on, get the hell off the road pussy.

I do it when it's raining so hard, I can hardly see the car in front of me's tail lights. I drive a gray truck, so I figure under gray skies in a HEAVY downpour (not just a little shower) it helps my visibility because the flashes are brighter than just my tail lights with my lights on.

I had no idea it was illegal, but I'll probably stil do it and accept my ticket in the event it becomes an issue. I still do my best to try to keep up with the flow of traffic, because when you can't see out of your winsheild, you SHOULD slow down. My windshield wipers aren't any faster than yours, so our visibility should be roughly the same.

It's true. If the logic is you're trying to be safe, you're doing yourself no favors. Pull all the way off the road with your hazards or drive slower with normal lights in the right lane.

If you think someone is going to plow into you but your hazard lights are preventing it you're a dumbass.

I mean I get this thinking, but take it one step further. People that actually do pull over will usually use their hazard lights, as they should. If it is raining that hard and visibility is that limited, your hazards are confusing as frick for people behind you.

ETA: And the hazard lights disable turn signals in some vehicles, and even if it doesn't, it makes it difficult to tell the difference when you've had your hazard lights on for miles.

If you are rolling and have your hazards on, you are an idiot and a menace to society.

I almost hit a car in front of me the other day because he had his hazard lights on. His brake lights never lit up because the hazards were on. Good thing I was at a safe enough distance to slow down once I realized he was actually slamming on his brakes.

It doesn't make you safer. If it's that bad, pull off the road.

Just get out of my way in the passing lane because I'm trying to outrun the storm.

I seriously hate this dumbassery. I've see it here in Texas too, and every time it's someone with Louisiana or Mississippi plates. I don't understand why you can't just pull over on the shoulder and wait it out instead of risking driving with them on.
