Anyone think they will make a comeback? Trying to figure out what the next bull market will be after this.

I hope so. I love the drive in. They did it at Audobon Park a couple times and it was awesome.

Plus they could remake Grease and kids would understand

Not in metro areas. The real estate is too valuable for only part-time use.

More likely to have more direct to consumer films for a premium price; like $20-30 or so

ETA: It's cheaper than going to the theater, many folks have great TV/sound systems at home, you can watch on release date without having to buy a ticket (or maybe they limit the number of people who get first access)

Got to first, second, and third base for the first time at drive ins, on three different dates with three different chicks.

Suffice it to say, I dug the drive in.

Sorry, way long time ago, so no pics.

No.

I think this discussion came up last week on the M/TV board. Several things work against them.

How do you get theater surround sound in a vehicle?
The movie experience isn't all that great (cars moving around, headlines shining around)
Are you really going to sit with your car idling for 2+hours to keep the AC blowing? (Think of the environmentalist freak out at that idea).
In the middle of summer you wouldn't have movies starting until 9 or 10, so the theaters wouldn't make that much in ticket sales (as opposed to 5 or 6 showings a day)
Land is too valuable to waste that much of it on a handful of screens.

I live about 1/2 mile from a drive-in and it is always packed.

It would be cool. They died down by the time I was born, but I have always liked the concept. And I think there are ways to modernize the experience that would appeal to the younger crowd.

They have one in the middle of nowhere in Monetta SC and they are doing pretty well. Their concession prices are much more reasonable than the indoor theaters and it's pretty cool when the weather is mild.

It may be a bit rough during the heat of summer and the dead of winter however

We have one here in Granbury, Texas (50 mi SW of FW). I've never been to it, but it seems to be doing okay:

Watched “The Hunt” and “The invisible man” on the Red Box app spent 20.00 bucks for each movie but it was worth it. Family of 5 watching so it was a lot cheaper than going to the movies and it was crystal clear on my smart tv.

I've been to a drive-in theater dozens of times and I feel like it's way more of an incubator for disease than regular movie theaters. Concession stands are packed and people are sandwiched together in line. Also, there's a lot more people using the restroom. I don't think it's a better alternative to movie theaters for social distancing.
