For teenagers or grownups it seems silly.

For younger kids who have no ability to grasp what is happening it gives them a chance to see their friends albeit briefly.

We went to one yesterday but it was not run by Nazis so many folks stopped, got out their car, kept their distance and chatted with the host and each other while their kids got to at least see their buddies. THey even handed out treatbags for the kid who attended with one of those grabber sticks. We may have been less careful with the beers.

If i was a kid, I think this would depress me more than not having a party

I did one. I really didn't want to but my daughter wanted to and it was for one of her friends. I was really glad we did it. The little girl was super appreciative. It's a pretty shitty off suit for kids right now. And OP is a miserable fricking curmudgeon. frick him.

for you perhaps, but not to the person they're trying to make feel special.

Yes, but what would the local news have to talk about without them?

Do you get mad when people celebrate birthday parties at restaurants?

How is this any different?

Would you rather have a drive-by shooting?

Experienced one about a week and a half ago. My boy's good friend was forced to "move home" as deadbeat dad officially disappeared and single mother recovering from brain tumor lost her job so they're moving 500 miles away to mother's family farm.

It was actually a tremendous show of the human spirit IMO.

20-30 cars came, several teachers, the school principal. Best send off I've ever seen.

Not sure why people are downvoting you. I agree with your sentiment. Had a bunch of cars and motorcycles lined up on the main road in my neighborhood yesterday for some kind of celebration. I called the Cops on em then laughed as I watched them scatter when the Cops came.

100% this. You're telling me I get kid's birthday party attendance credit, and all I have to do is load my kids into the golf cart and cruise around for 20 minutes?
