That said this doesn't happen over night. Meetings dont keep me sober they are just a piece. Get a sponsor work the Steps have a spiritual experience and do 10 11 and 12 all day.

Wow..what classic "AA" thread. It's easy to see who works a real program and has found srenity and who can't stop drinking but wants to pace blame on anything and everything except themselves. Here's the deal as I know it to be true:

A real Alcoholic has lost, and will Never again regain, the ability to control their drinking once they start.

AA, when it's boiled down to the core, is about working the 12 Steps found on page 59.

The 12 Steps are about developing a relationship with a Power greater than yourself.

This Power gives you, finally, the ability to make the decision to not take the first sip of the first drink Today.

Rehab can get you sober, AA keeps you sober! It has worked when nothing else could.

I started drinking at 12 and using meth at 15 by the time I was 35 I wanted to quit and found I couldn't. I started going to rehab and therapeutic communities and doing what the said to do, didn't work. In 2010 I got arrested yet again and I met some cats that showed me what AA really was so 6/13/2010 is my sobriety date and I got with the parctice of the steps and principles of AA. Took me 8 years of struggling and fighting to get sober before this happened, I am now 50 and a productive member of society living a life I never thought I could. My advice is to do the work and receive the results.

If you work the program, the promises in the Big Book will happen for you. As i said in an earlier thread

It's a simply program but it's not easy.

20 years of Meth use?

The folks from the Guinness World Book of Records should be in touch with you.

My dad hasn’t had a drink in 29 years. He’s extremely active in sponsoring. One thing he has mentioned is that now there’s more people who were into drugs than just alcohol and it’s changed the culture. I’ve been to a good number meetings with him, and they’re humbling.

It's the same addiction, some just use it as an excuse to use another drug, I can't smoke weed but I can drink or i can't do cocaine, or just go to NA meetings and continue to drink.

I was a speed freak and coke addict, when I didn't have either I drank, the end results where the same, and I never been to a N.A. meeting.

Didn't quit til I was 43 and there are many more like me, some have managed to get sober, some haven't and some are dead. AA saved my life.

Thanks man. I've been down this road many times and I'm humiliated. The people at Baton Rouge General emergency are getting tired of seeing me. I've been trying to wean over a few days and I think I'm winning. I don't want to go back there but I know it is very life threatening. I've been on the brink of death a few times with DTS

There is a detox center with a treatment center attached opening at 216 S. Foster in BR in a couple of weeks. Try going there for help next time.

What’s the name of the Center in B R you are referring too? I’ll need to reach out to them.

Also good to see so many fellow AA guys in this thread.

Detox Center of Louisiana and Baton Rouge Area Alcohol and Drug Treatment Center. They are in the same building at 216 S. Foster just past The YMCA and Church of the Way if you are coming from Government Street. Phone is 225-925-5367.
They will be opening very soon.

AA saved my life as well, however I can very closely relate to Hollywood's opinions about AA. I used to sound just like him.
After trying every way i could think of and failing, my struggles beat me down to the point where I could finally concede that maybe I didn't have all the answers.
Then I saw people I knew and who's minds I respected had used this program to overcome what I could not, and I became willing to try a different path, the one that is laid out in the blue book.
The difference it made in my life can hardly be believed, and is a testament to the program, the fellowship and the belief in something greater than oneself.

I'm actually about to go to an AA meeting. It's the only way I've been able to stay sober for extended periods. The support is what keeps me going. Does don't 13th step the females, I've made that mistake a few times
