What could possibly go wrong?
Posted on 4/11/14 at 8:35 am to NatalbanyTigerFan
3 days? Shouldn't even be a question. Don't drink the night before.

It shouldn't be an issue in regards to the actual procedure. Now, depending on how it reacts and effects any symptoms you might be having, current medications etc is a different story.

#3 Have the surgery

As with any surgery, you won't be eating or drinking anything 24 hours prior, including water.

How bad is it to drink a little beer that close to surgery? I'm having brain surgery to remove a benign tumor Tuesday morning. I'm going to the Strawberry Festival Saturday for a little while. Is a few beers gonna be all that bad for me?
I've done far worse 3 days before a minor surgery. You're fine. Just don't get wasted the night before to point your blood is thin or BP is too high.

I have surgery a week from today and my doc said no drinking the night before. He also said no smoking anything at all 3 weeks prior and 3 weeks after
ETA - mine is nowhere near as serious as brain surgery. Good luck to you, sir

They did not give you a sheet of things you can and cannot do prior to surgery? Last one I had they gave me a page that listed things to stop doing two weeks prior to surgery and one week prior to surgery. I remember energy drinks being on the two week list.

I know that binge drinking while on warfarin will increase a patient's INR (basically what your wife said, more bleeding) but I'm not sure if this is a physiologic effect or an interaction with warfarin.
I'm inclined to believe the former. If you're not taking any medication, it probably won't hurt you that much.
