Former Astronaut visits Southern
Southern University Baton Rouge (SUBR), March 9, 2016, will host its 136th Founders' Day with a series of activities commemorating its history and honoring former STEM trailblazers.
This year's observance of the annual recognition is themed, "Southern University: Continuing the Journey . . . Surpassing Boundaries . . ."
In keeping with its focus on honoring history, SUBR will pay tribute to former engineering student pioneers who were among the first African Americans to be recruited in the early 1960's through the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) then newly created Cooperative Education Program - some of whom were featured in a March 2014 Smithsonian's Air & Space magazine article

I just got accepted into Southern's doctorate program, but I'm nervous. Will people look at me differently? Will people think I went to Southern because I couldn't get in anywhere else? Will I get a job?

LOL. I think people misinterpreted my old posts. My whole point was why bother going to a more difficult school, whereas going to a easier school would have been better.

Succes is a journey, not a destination.

I like that message. Why challenge yourself? Just coast.
You should go speak to inner city children. Spread your message.

What's funny is his reasoning is pretty much what Justice Scalia said. Why use affirmative action to get into universities they're not prepared for? Go to an easier school and become like the person in the OP.

So... The theme of the movie is that merit transcends all racial and gender bias?
How novel.
Yeah... That's probably not the theme but it should be.

Isn't it funny how we are on the other side of the coin now?
And by "funny", I mean "tragic".

Normally I dont celebrate the first "insert minority here" person to do something. But I'll celebrate the first black woman to be an astronaut. That's a really great accomplishment, and African Americans like her should be celebrated by the African American community, not frick ups like Kanye and Nicki Minaj; race baiters like Al Sharpton; criminals like Michael Brown; athletes that abuse their status by committing crimes and getting away with them (Greg Hardy, Kobe, OJ, etc). one of the many problems of the African American community is confusing famous people with role models. More African Americans with real accomplishments should be embraced

I like how you slid that "criminals like Michael brown" in there, that was smooth.
