More like 10-12 years. This is going to be done Louisiana style and be a generational thing.

Is this really necessary?

As a stand-alone action, not really.

As part of larger infrastructure improvements, absolutely.

That's just the easy part of eventually widening I-10 all the way through. The basin bridge and the Lake Charles bridge will be the hard parts.

I would assume it's not.

I mean, if y'all want to just tell USDOT to give that share to us instead, we have quite a few projects we could use it on.

Traffic is honestly not that bad there. It's just going to create a bottleneck to get on the basin. Terrible idea.

This seems like all kinds of dumb.

First of all, the I-10/ I-49 interchange has a lane about 100 yards long for cars to both exit onto I-49 north or south AND for cars to exit onto I-10 east or west. Fix that crap first.

Second, the basin bridge will still create a bottle neck and now there will be a bottle neck in Lafayette heading west as well.

Lastly, I cannot imagine they'll add a lane both ways and repave the entire 17 mile stretch for $60M. This shite will go over budget.

I agree with the short exchange. It works but it also does slow traffic down.

In LC it goes from 3 to 2 lanes and there us no bottle neck.

60 million is not the total project cost. Total cost is 190 million

i have looked at the preliminary plans. I don't know where they came up with a budget of 60 million. The job will be more like 150-175 million. If all they have is 60 million, this will not be built.

Probably a stupid thought but, why not widen that stretch only on the westbound side and widen a similar distance between the basin and BR for the eastbound side?

That would at least solve the bottleneck situation many are referring to. And expanding to 3 lanes after things get all clustered on the bridge (because of the slower speeds) sounds amazing to me.

Complete waste of money. There is never ever ever ever ever ever any traffic on that stretch unless there is an accident on the Basin Bridge, which this does not fix. That was money that was supposed to go to widen I-10 in BR. JBE stole it for this project as a massive f&%k you to Baton Rouge.

It's the only way to go to New Orleans. The extra 20 minutes or so is worth it to just avoid I10

I drive this route a decent bit. It slows down considerably from 49 to Breaux Bridge

It stops consistently between LA415 and the 10/12 split for a few hours twice a day.

I'm not arguing that this project is more important than BR area.

Is this the money Garrett Graves was recently crowing about getting? He was touting this as helping solve the problems in BR how in the Hell can our loggerhead looking governor divert it to Lafayette? Must need to pay off some of his campaign contributors, that drives all his other decisions.
