If you leave a decent tip you’ll never wait for an hour unless you live in the middle of nowhere

but all people who use door dash are lazy worthless pieces of shite.

Sometimes it’s the complete opposite. My time is worth ALOT more money than the small delivery fee they charge.

Do that many people really live in places without food delivery? I’ve been able to get pizza, po’boys, Chinese, shawarma, etc. from local restaurants with their own delivery (fee + tip) my whole life. Delivery driver has been a career in NY and L.A. for decades. This is nothing new. It just gives consumers more options.

For instance, I door dashed some missing ingredients preparing thanksgiving food the day before. It allowed me to keep working without wasting 30 minutes and it gave someone a little money in their pocket going into the holidays. Some of y'all are wound entirely too tight.

I agree for the most part, but I love that Costco delivers. I live about 30 mins (if the traffic is light) from Costco and there are things I get every 6 weeks and that is helpful not having to go there each time.

Yesterday the person who was delivering seriously texted me every 5 mins "I am 20 mins out" "I am 15 mins out". When she got to my house, she texted me a picture of my house and informed me she arrived. That was strange behavior.

It’s all illegal Mexicans and middle easterners using stolen identities to deliver anyways.

Who would've thought that Door Dash would have such staunch supporters and detractors. This thread is great with the infighting

I do. I pick up my phone and order it to my house.

Door dash is one of the stupidest most wasteful ways to blow money.

And for the record, I pick up my pizza. It’s less than 10 minutes away and saves me like $20

The only door dash order that I have received was delivered to my address by mistake.

simply not true. i have used it and never paid anywhere near double menu price. And plenty of restaurants charge fees for pick up now.

I ordered pizza hut a few times and they used dd for delivery instead of their own drivers and there was no extra charge.

What I'm saying, and why I stopped using the apps, is that the menu prices are marked up. A hamburger that you would pay 9.99 if you went to the restaurant or called them for takeout would have a base menu price of 12.99 on the food app. I read that for the average restaurant, there is a 30% markup on menu prices so they can cover the fee that the apps take from them on food.

This is not transparent in the app. This is actually what played a large part in Waitr getting killed off, they started prohibiting restaurants from charging higher prices for menu items than their published menus at the restaurant.

So yes, that markup you don't know is there, combined with fees plus tip, is going to make an item cost double what you'd pay at the restaurant unless you're ordering for multiple people. This may not happen at every restaurant for example Pizza Hut may have a special agreement with them, but the burger joint down the street has to mark up their prices to pay for that service to cover them.
