That's the bad part about it. The mind still works, but the body gradually loses strength... And within a year or two.. A person goes from being able to do what they always did to barely being able to do anything physically..

The thought of being mentally intact but slowly losing the ability to breathe must be horrible.

I used to work with her over at WAFB running the teleprompter for her. Very sweet lady. I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

If it's who I'm thinking of, his nightly weather reports are top notch.

Very sweet lady if you've ever met her. ALS is awful and just robs you of your body. God bless her as she retires. I hope she has some peace and enjoys her time with her family.

Probably goes like this:

"Unit 1-9, we have a report of a man shot in the 3600 block of North 38th Street. Continue down Winbourne from your current location, take a left at Istrouma High, and the crime scene will be....STRAIGHT AHEAD"

But will he issue a "cuddle alert"?

Not quite. He is at the St. James retirement community. He is still sharp as a tack. He went out on assignment during the protests. That man is ex-military and still can handle himself.

Met him after the Tennessee game back in 2010. His wife had a bunch to drink and was having heat exhaustion. My wife stayed behind while I helped George find his car in the parking lot. They seemed like a sweet couple.

I just looked it up out of curiousity. He retired in 2012 and was 69 then so he is now 75.. Either way, that's good to hear.. Of course I don't know the guy, but growing up, my parents watched the news every night...

Paul Gates had Alzheimer's and passed before his time as well. Truly sad to see us lose competent journalists who cared for BR, not just passing through on job assignments.

While her illness is brutal and I wouldn't that at all, but she should have retired 3 months ago. Listening to her is terrible.
