Dominos (the game) rule question: Mexican Train

I am trying to get rule clarification.
Let’s say it’s your turn and you have no play. You pick up a piece from boneyard and then you now have a play. Let’s say you pick up a domino that matches the center and you can start a train. Can you start laying down a string of pieces right then and there? Or do you only play that one piece and you’re done?
Not sure if that makes sense or not.

It doesn't make sense. You play one and you're done until your next turn.

When we play you are done.

I don’t know the official rules because IDGAF, I only play when I’m with my grandparents. We’ve played both ways. Honestly I prefer to be able to lay your entire train down because it speeds the game up. Everyone gets to drop a train one time.

Why even play if you do it this way? This is lame.

What do you mean? Your train is usually just a couple of pieces. I haven’t played in years honestly. But there’s no reason to delay the inevitable imo. It changes the game certainly, and just because you can play an entire train doesn’t mean it’s always the best play.

Ok. So next question. What about a double?
Let’s say I pull a double from the boneyard and I can play it. Can I then play the follow up piece to close the double out?
Or is it just the double and turn over?

I mean there's no strategy to just laying all them down at once. It kinda ruins the entire point of the game.

Not only can you, but you HAVE to. If you can't, you draw again, and the next person has to close it.

You have to have a good train. It takes a lucky draw. Like I said usually it’s just a handful of pieces sometimes just 2-3.
Plus, have you ever finished an actual game of dominos? I don’t think I’ve ever even gotten that close. It takes like 6 hours lol.

Bruh this is like dominos 101 rule #3. You have pennies right or markers? If you leave a double open you draw and then anyone can play it.

Actual game like 12 rounds? No.
It's fun though. We play with friends and have the wine flowing. Last time we made 7 rounds and had to go.

That’s not the question. It’s a question of what you do when you pick from the boneyard and then have a play. I wasn’t sure if you could play subsequent pieces off the boneyard play (double or train piece).

Not always the case, if someone before ends their train on a double, you can't play your train unless they draw a dominos and can play.
We play a lot and have finished many games in much less than 6 hours

Can’t play until your turn comes around again.
You can only make a train once.

One more question:
Let say you have a play. By rules, do you HAVE to play it?
