So with thick hair and sensitive neck. What combo of razor and blade should I use assuming I want to stay with DE?

First, what kind of DE razor do you have? The more aggressive the razor just means it cuts a little deeper.
When I use a less aggressive razor, Merkur 34c or an Edwin Jagger 89 I pair them with a Feather blade. When I use my old Gillette Slim adjustable, I use an Astra or a Derby Platinum blade.

Gillette Fusions FTW!

I have a thick beard and sensitive skin, but only need to change the fusion cartridge montly. I shave daily. Comes out to three bucks a month.

These other company's are banking on you changing blades weekly, which isn't necessary with the fusion despite what the little strip says. Gillette has even said this publicly.

Exactly. I've tried DSC and the razors aren't that good compared to the fusions. People are jumping on quantity over quality which is the wrong direction, imo.

How to do know if I have an aggressive razor or not? What does it look like?

Do they still make the fusions with the battery in them? Vibrated the head. I don't see them sold anymore.

OP, I just used my new Harry's razor along with the shave gel. It cut smoothly and comfortably. The shave gel was nice and had a cooling sensation. For a $3 starter kit, it's worth the money.

I used a Gillette fusion before.

I'll need to look into how much this will cost long term, but as far as the razor, it's ok.

I'll just give him a call on his personal cell phone. Although I'm pretty sure he uses a straight razor.

Badman, the easiest way to tell is the gap between the blade and the head. What type of razor do you own? I been DE shaving for a while with a beard and skin like you. I do 2 passes during the week every other day and on weekends I will do a 3 pass with a touch up. I hardly ever go ATG on my neck as it is sensitive. I mainly use a EJ 89 with Astras. I have a Merkur slant they call the sledgehammer that I use every once in a while that is very aggressive. My son, 14, uses the Phoenix double open comb, which is a very mild but cool looking razor. To me soap is the key. A tallow based soap is a must for me. I have a variety of scents from Sterling Soap Company. I have not found one I don't like.
Hope this helps

Kind of need to know what razor you got. You might want to go on ebay and get an old Gillette Slim adjustable for 20 to 30 bucks. That way you can dial in how aggressive you want it. Just make sure its a shaver and not broken. If you get one that's out of adjustment, you can send it off to Razor Emporium and they will get it back in shape for $20.00.

I have DSC razors now that I can't wait to get rid of. They irritate the living shite out of my skin.

I've found that dollar store pack with one handle and 5 cartridges work fine for me. $3.00 for the set and each cartridge lasted me 2-3 weeks easily.

It was obvious that the big razor companies reached a point a while back where they just kept adding numbers of blades and bells and whistles to keep upping the prices with very marginal if any upgrades in quality of shave.

Use this set up. Merkur 34c,Feather blade (which you have), Omega Pro boar brush (I prefer shave soap because it's slicker and a good boar brush is soft enough but has the spine to dig out soap.) They are also inexpensive.
I start by running hot water in a mug and soak my brush. I shave in the shower so I just stick it on the side of the tub along with my razor and soap of choice. Wash, then pour out my mug, give my brush a shake and load my brush with soap. I then face lather and do a first pass. Stick my face under the shower and re-lather for the 2nd pass. Repeat rinse and go for a third pass. I keep a cart razor in the shower. I re-lather and use the cart for clean up on my neck. After drying off I use either witch hazel and a cotton ball or an alum block. If you use an alum block, after a minute rinse it off. Then I get dressed while cooling off and then aftershave.
The key is don't go for a "baby butt smooth" shave at first. Do your three passes, working on technique, knowing your cart razor is there for clean up. After a while you will need your cart less and less as your technique improves. Hope this helps. Oh yeah, I shave like this every day.

I have been in DSC for past year, given to me as a gift. I don't have a coarse beard, and only need to shave every other day. DSC blades aren't nearly as good as Gillette Fusion, IMO. I never get as close a shave with DSC, and blades go dull quickly.

Not horrible I would say, but definitely not as good a shave as Gillette.

Parker 111B Ebony Handle Double Edge Safety Razor is what I have now. I went back and read the reviews and one stated that it was an aggressive razor. I use Proraso Pre-shave Cream. And I use Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Hard Shaving Soap. My blades are Astra Platinum Double Edge Safety Razor Blades.

Any suggestions would be very appreciated.
