TM has the venues locked down and cannot host bands using different ticketing agents.

And again, people are falling over themselves trying to get tickets to these shows.

No, I think they have their place when it comes to essential things for the populace. We can argue about what things should be on that list. But nowhere near that list would be going to a concert.

Price gouging is price gouging.

How thick does one have to be to stick up for Ticketmaster as some vanguard of capitalism? JFC...y'all let politics take over your lives. Common sense and decency have gone out the window, to be replaced by self-flogging and vitriol against society.

" thank you for calling Ticketmaster where American Express is the preferred method of payment, this call may be recorded for quality assurance purposes, how may I help you?" I had to say that every time the phone rang...

Oh and the people that v worked at TM in the early 90s because they were only suitable for phone work... Every time I see a couple of my kids teachers..I think about TM How times have changed

Who’s sticking up for ticket master? I’m saying things that are discretionary don’t matter. No one is dying because they couldn’t afford to go see Coldplay in concert.

That's not how monopolies and anti-trust laws work. It doesn't matter if it's a life or death product, or entertainment. If an entity controls an industry to the extent there is little to no competition, that is not fair to the consumer. Americans are afforded the right to fair business practices by way of competition.

I'm not on Ticketmaster's side at all, but some NFL teams and MLS teams use SeatGeek. So what is the justifiable claim that Ticketmaster has a monopoly?

Didn’t Metallica or Pearl Jam already try to sue Ticketmaster and lost?

Would you feel the same about $250 fees to catch a game at Wrigley?

The cost/value equation would be enough out of wack for me that I'd skip the game and just watch from a bar nearby.

That's a secondary market. Anti-trust laws are aimed at the original source.

If Acme Widget Company establishes a monopoly on the production of widgets through oligopolistic behavior, the fact that you can go into widget store at your local strip mall or go to someone's garage sale and buy a used widget doesn't change the fact that an anti-trust violation was created at Acme.

I mean it's a lot more complicated in the end, but Ticketmaster has always reeked of unfair monopoly behavior. They probably skated by on the margins because at the end of the day the general public isn't outraged over concerts versus something like pharmaceuticals or energy.

Didn't ticketmaster already get hit with something like over a decade ago?

Yeah. Pearl Jam sued Ticketmaster back in 1994 and lost.
I don’t see Eddie caring about this anymore. He’s lost his edge. He’s rich and not angry anymore. I actually like to punch him in his face if I could.

Ticketmaster is really just a service to take the heat off of bands and venues for what would otherwise be seen as price gauging. Ticketmaster is "chosen" because most venues are owned and operated by Live Nation, who in turn owns Ticketmaster.

This ain't a lie. When Blink-182 went on tour last year and tickets were clearly being gouged by TM's system, the bass player Mark pretty much told us to get fricked. Some artists can't do anything about it because of the fact that TM/LN owns all the major venues but they can absolutely refuse certain bonuses that would lower costs for their fans. Surprise surprise... most of them do not refuse.
