No Irish Wolf Hound mention? Things made wolves extinct in Ireland. The one at my dog park can run as fast as anything I’ve seen minus a grey hound and it’s like 170 lbs I think. It’s insane.

One of my friends in Tulsa had a big dumb male wolfhound. UPS and FedEx started calling the house to tell him he had a package to pickup at the office rather than get near his house. That was after he came home from work to find the UPS guy up his neighbors tree. He also had an evening of not 1 but 2 black kids on top of his car parked along the street.

Was funny the 1st time I went to visit him. Buddy comes flying out the door to warn me as I am petting the big oaf over the chain link fence and it's just drooling and tail wagging almost howling enjoying the attention.

I think I read something last week about the Chinese "breeding" a dog that looked like he was on steroids......musclebound as hell.

Hi Pecker, long time fan. I have a couple of quick questions regarding the Tibetan Mastiff.

In your narrative, it is stated the breeds are active at night. Is this an inherent trait of the breed, or more of a product of training and surroundings? I do not want to be kept up all night.

What is their primary diet? Can these dogs eat traditional dog food/ how much dry kibble would it take daily to keep one if these guys (or gals, lol) fed?

What is their life expectancy?

Any breed specific health problems?

Thanks in advance!

PS- Sorry about your wife

Neighbor breeds them also, nice gentle dogs but I still wouldn't want to jump his fence in the middle of the night.

I know the Broussard PD bought one a few years back.

I have a Boerboel but she is not nearly as intimidating as the Brazilian Mastiff we had growing up...

Fila Brasileiro

The Fila Brasileiro or Brazilian Mastiff originated in Brazil. Males measure up to 29 inches high at the shoulders and weigh 180 lbs. With Bloodhound ancestry, Filas are superb trackers and are known for their aggressiveness and unforgiving temperament. Originally bred to protect plantations and livestock, they have also been used to track and capture/kill Jaguar as well as slaves (when slavery was legal in Brazil), where they would hold the animal or human by the neck until the owner arrived. The Fila is also highly protective of his own territory and family. They show an extreme wariness of strangers, however can be socialized to behave in a calm manner in public. These dogs have been banned in the UK, Denmark, and Norway.

Just know that just because the dog is huge doesn't mean it can tear arse.

I know a guy who took Neopolitan Mastiffs and mated them with Boxers and Great Danes. After about three generations, holy freaking shite. Talk about powerful animals. They are basically superheroes.

The house across the street from my house was nice, but small. Single mom with son buys it. The son is a good kid who loves dog, but he loves the bully type dogs. They can't afford a fence, dogs run loose or are chained. First pit died of heartworms. He was gentle (and loose 90% of the time). Saw the son walking new pit and the pit was tugging hard on the leash - stray male dog was running lose and dog clearly was being aggressive towards the stray.

The dog was initially loose some and chained in the front yard, and seemed to be well socialized. He jumped into the front seat of my car once for a ride. I'm worried though that he is becoming aggressive.
