One correction, Dogos aren't killing machines. They were bred to hunt in packs and be good family dogs. Boxers were cross bred with them for temperament. The only reason they're banned in some countries is because they look like pits.

No Irish Wolf Hound mention? Things made wolves extinct in Ireland. The one at my dog park can run as fast as anything I’ve seen minus a grey hound and it’s like 170 lbs I think. It’s insane.

And Tibetan Mastiff’s just look mean as shite in those pictures. I’m pretty sure they are pretty calm like normal mastiffs.

These dogs were bred to perform a task much like a lab, husky, or even a maltepoo. If I was a nomadic tribesman trying to protect everything I care about, absolutely, give me the baddest mf'ing dog there is. Unfortunately people get these dogs for vanity reasons that make zero sense. I think it was in SF a few years ago that two Pessas killed their neighbor in the hallway of the apartment.

They're banned because of their use as fighting dogs. Many people who were shipping them to Europe and Asia were doing so to breed them for fighting. They are incredibly successful when bred for that purpose. They are great dogs though when they don't come from a fighting lineage.

Fighting pits were ran by blue collar workers, and the dogs were investments. They would have to reach in and grab the dogs. The dogs were trained to not bite. A bite could put a man out of work for weeks and he would lose his job. Fighting pits were to make extra money, not change professions.

Dogs are abused these days. They aren't trained to do anything.

I pick mine up next week. The backyard if full of squirrels, so we might have to keep it inside.

I'll leave the baby killing machines to the trashy folks.

Cão Fila de São Miguel (frequently translated into English as the São Miguel Cattle Dog or Cattle Dog of São Miguel Island, but other names, such as Azores Cattle Dog, may be used)

Azores Cattle Dog is a working breed. These dogs live to work and would hate to be kept just as a home companion. This breed has two main purposes in life – to herd and to guard. In fact these dogs that were born in the pasture are known to remain outdoors day and night for the whole year herding and guarding cattle as well as guarding agricultural tools and other properties of the master.
