Not really

I regularly have to bug the shite out of my "boss" to do stuff. Operating autonomously 90% of the time and waiting on final input that holds up my shite is probably the biggest annoyance with my job (otherwise pretty good).

Yes, my boss has a shared Google calendar for his appointments and when he will be out of the office. Everyone in our office has access, this is mainly because he doesn't want to keep track of his own schedule. This way he can call anyone at anytime and ask what he has going on each day.

As for our appointments/time off, my supervisor will make a little note on her calendar for future appointments/vacations as reminders for why someone isn't there, but its not shared anywhere.

ETA: Our stuff is not shared on a public calendar, its shared through gossip...bunch of nosy people in our office.

Not when he has a boss too though.
Makes it awkward when the boss's boss comes looking and often I have no idea where he is.

The GM where I work tried to document me for 4 days of vacation when I took off Thurs-Sun last week. I put an end to that real damn quick.

Example 1: Employee leaves an hour early to go home sick. It is immediately added to calendar by boss.
Example 2: Boss leaves couple of hours early for vacation. It is nowhere to be found on the calendar.

Are a lot of places transitioning to no official vacation/sick days? This is really common in law but not sure if it works with how other fields do business.

I kind of envy a set number of days.

Oh, in that case you should definitely go over your bosses head and rat him out. That is a sure fire way to get to the top.

One company I worked for didn't offer sick/vacation time to the hourly employees. Salaried, yes.

My new company uses an accrual system for hourly employees. After a yr of work they get 1 wk vacation and after 6 months of work they are awarded 3 days of sick time, for a total of 6 full days in a year. Non Department Head salaried are the same way with Department Heads earning 2 weeks of vacation right out of the gate.

Not my goal. Just would like to be able to tell people who come looking if boss is in or out. If I say boss is out, and boss is really in, then I look like I don't know what is going on. If I say boss is in, but boss isn't, then again, I look like I don't know what's going on.
Which really, I don't, because the boss doesn't tell anyone.
This has been going on for years but now immediate supervisor has somehow become exempt from the calendar too.
Higher-ups come looking, I look clueless.

why would the boss need to write that down if he owns the business?

My company just made the switch to PTO (Paid Time Off) which is just vacation and sick days combined.

I am not sure what this means? Do you work a traditional 5 day work week or do you usually work weekends?

Well I guess that sucks even worse.

I technically have no limit on time off, which means I probably take less than I otherwise could if I got some number of weeks.

Half the time he/they are just like "whatever, do what you think is best" as if I'm stupid for not just doing everything without their input. But that is obviously bullshite should something go awry.

Like I want to be on the hook for making a service call to the milkshake machine guy unnecessarily.
