I don't see them much anymore.

I remember seeing what sounded like a turbine powered crop duster flying over the neighborhood ago years spraying what I assume was mosquito spray.

Were those worthwhile?

Maybe the lightenenening bugs are just hiding from people now? They have more stuff to worry about than when we were kids and lightingening bugs were everywhere.

It's been very effective in eradicating fireflies.

Definitely impacts fireflies. I just call mosquito abatement and have them treat my yard. Way better IMHO.

That shite is toxic. I'm surprised they still spray that crap in neighborhoods.

Private companies are affective but the gov’t programs are trash. They don’t calibrate the machines, have effective plans of attack, or even know about the biology/etymology of the bug. They just load up the sprayer and drive. The company in metairie, while paid AF, actually have a pretty effective strategy. I sat through a presentation and while incredibly boring they are very thorough.

Our house has had no problems and if we do, we’ve called and a truck comes by a day or so later.

It worked well on the road to New Orleans -- in causing a traffic jam which killed a notable actress some years back

Yes. I used to ride behind it on my bicycle and get one hell of a buzz.

I would have to assume so, I've never asked.

As a kid on a Navy base in Arkansas, the “fog man” would pass and we would run around in it. One time I ran into a telephone pole and got knocked out.

Could sterilization of female mosquitoes work?

This will totally lead to some sort of inadvertent zombie apocalypse, but seriously, if there's one thing I wouldn't mind going extinct it's the freaking mosquito.

When we were kids we would call it the frick truck. Every time it came into our neighborhood, we would yell fuuuuuck and ride our bikes out of the way. :csb:

I don't think it does based on how I have to apply bug spray to my yard. If I'm having to get the liquid into the grass, bushes, and under shrubbery, how does that shite get under there?

We need to invest in bats...

My FIL built a badass MASSIVE bat box on a tree at his house in Madison, MS. They live on the water and the mosquitoes were just insane on his dock at night. The tree is like 30 feet from the water so it's a perfect location.

There are so many damn bats in his bat box and it has noticeably reduced the mosquitoes out there. He's planning to build several smaller ones around the property now.

Had a discussion recently with someone about an article where they were introducing sterile mosquitoes into the environment to halt breeding.

We were wondering what kind of fricked up shite would happen to the ecosystem and food chain if mosquitoes were eradicated. There has to be some terrible downstream impact.
