My Maxima’s roof and hood are rusting. It’s definitely an issue I’ve noticed with Maximas and Altimas.

Nissan has forgotten how to be a competitive car company.
In the 1980s, the Nissan Maxima was basically a european sport sedan competitor with a mainstream badge - sort of like the Kia Stinger or Chevrolet SS. It was legitimately awesome. In the 1990s, they turned it into a higher end family car, but no one really noticed that it was watered down because the quality was there.
Now Nissan is peddling sports sedans with front wheel drive, a CVT, and the same 15+ year old VQ engine design.
Nissan is a lot like Pontiac IMO. They had a reputation of being a performance oriented brand that offered a lot of value to people who otherwise would have to buy very plain, boring vehicles (like a Camry or Malibu). They started watering down and cheapening their products and lost their way entirely. Pontiac has been discontinued. Nissan has pickups and SUVs to rely on (Pontiac didn't), but they still may not make it much longer in the US if they can't turn the company around.

Toyota is better with finish quality than Honda, Subaru, and Nissan.
They still aren't great, but they are better than the other Japanese brands.

Honda had a run of about 10 years recently where their cars faded to shite as well.

I don't know if they've just kind of stagnated while everyone else improved....or if they've started cost cutting. But it's been obvious that Nissan lost focus for about 10 years now.

I've owned several Toyota and Nissan SUVs and the Toyotas by far had the worst paint of any vehicle I've ever had.

Not sure what time frame everyone is referring to for Nissan's quality control to have started dipping, but I had a 2008 and drove it for just under 10 years. Only time I washed it was when I went on road trips, used one of those do it yourself car wash places because I lived in an apartment/condo for most of that time.
Only place I had issues was on the hood, but that was because I was behind a dump truck that dropped a lot of debris after having it for 4-5 years.

Rusting?
I can see fading but roofs don't rust even up north here.
Rockers, cab corners, bed sides on trucks generally start going at about 10 years. Occasionally sooner on Dodges/Rams.

Owned several high mileage Altimas and never had paint issues. I do see a lot of older Titans with paint gone on hood and roof.
Nissan quality has absolutely dropped off since the french connection began. I am a long time Nissan owner and probably will not purchase another.

AS bad as their exterior paint is, the interior is worse.
All the black plastic pieces on my wife's 06 350Z are flaking and wearing off. It's like they used sugar water to paint that shite. Every place that gets normal wear like around door handles, glove box, etc, the black is flaked off and the bare plastic is visible. Why not put the black dye in the plastic???? It's not like they paint those pieces different colors depending on the color of the interior. They are always black.
Pisses me off to no end.
My friend, who's more of a car guy and has way more time on his hands, disassembled the whole interior of his wife's 350Z and sanded and painted the plastic parts with a better paint.
I ain't got time for that shite.

And you can buy a new Nissan 370Z that's fundamentally the same as your 2006 model. That's a HUGE problem.

We have a 2013 Armada, black, 71k mikes, and no issues, interior or exterior. I find this to be an odd claim as I’ve actually never seen this on any Nissan. Matter of fact, we had a 2008 white Honda Odyssey before this car which DID have major paint issues. Only discovered it after having the windshield replaced and the tape the safelite guy used literally peeled the paint on the roof under it off. Started doing some research and discovered that Honda has major paint issues on their white, blue and silver cars (perhaps others) and these have existed for years. Won’t buy another one.

I think alot of the paint problems everyone is seeing is the switch to water born paints manufacturers were pressured into by the government.
