LSU was def not offering much to local kids for some reason.

Very valid points.
Situation is not changing. Just have to hope it does not get worse.

My Daughter had better financial aid from Tulane than LSU. Graduating from Tulane in May with honors and cost me a grand total of 10K for 4 years. She has been an RA at the dorms and that paid for Room, board and meal plan.

The price of out of State tuition seems to be a pretty good deterrent for highschoolers to stay in state.

I have an in-law that got a full ride to LSU with a 4.5 GPA and a 33 ACT.

It’s true, they don’t care one bit about local, talented students. Part of the dumbing down to admit students who should be in trade school or community college. I’ve seen it first-hand.

Big thing to remember with scholarship money is that it doesn't always pay for everything. Tulane offered me an arse ton, but I still would have been out of pocket.

Laugh all you want, but LSU was the only one to my knowledge "honoring the death of George Floyd"

The state likes to publicly state how they are losing the best and brightest to OOS schools but they make zero effort to keep them here. It’s why we continue to rank near the bottom in damn near everything but obesity.
With a 34 on ACT and likely an opportunity to increase that score, look OOS and private and see what offers come once applications go out. You will be surprised at the offers that come in if GPA is +4.0 w that test score. Max out on AP classes and write their own ticket.

Is LSUs enrollment hurting? Maybe they are getting all the in state kids they want already.

First 10 years I lived in Cincinnati I never saw Bama stickers or saw their fans. Now I see both daily including in affluent areas. Bama is throwing money at out of state students. Average student I know got a full ride for 5 year engineering /MBA combo.

If this is the case, he shouldn't even be considering LSU. Go out of state.

I work at a large oil refinery in Louisiana for one of the big oil companies. We have very few engineers from LSU, and the ones we do have haven't moved up very much.

LSU doesn’t offer in state kids because kids are dumb enough to pay to go there for the Greek life.
That and they’ve directed a significant amount of scholarship money away from merit based scholarships and towards DEI

In state students with the grades can get in through TOPS. So they target out of state students, for those out of state tuition payers.
