Does living in a free society mean living with a certain degree of risk?

Since 9/11 have we traded Liberty for Security?
Killing American citizens in drone strikes without due process?
American citizens under surveillance for no specific reason?
Threatening to take Americans constitutional rights for simply being under suspicion?
My opinion is living in a society like the founders of the constitution envisioned means you have to accept a certain level of risk.
The alternative is to live in an Orwellian society reminiscent of Minority Report, where thoughts and words are treated as crimes.
I don't believe there is a middle ground - once you start trading liberty for security, more and more will be taken away.

being alive means living with a degree of risk

you can have 99.99999% safety
or you can have 99.99999% freedom
more of one will mean less of the other.
It's up to us to decide what ratio we want

You hit the nail on the head. This is exactly the price we pay for liberty - risk. Personally I think we should take the risk; but I think most people make emotional decisions about individual suffering and want to allow it to govern the masses.

Even striving for perfect safety is no guarantee of safety. And that is why we should embrace liberty.

Absolutely, and these safe space bullshite people are more than happy to part from it in the name of safety.

Obviously. Just remember when you were a teenager. Your parents kept you safe(good ones at least), but you had to live by their rules.

Life has a certain amount of risk. You can never get rid of it.

Being alive has risks. A free society has added risks.
quote:I don't need a nanny state gov't like ours is slowly turning into more each day. The risk/benefit ratio is worth it.
A free society has added benefits as well.
