the more you know...

Seems a little far away from the border to be catching illegal immigrants. Maybe they go when they have reports of illegals they missed earlier at the border?

I thought the same thing.

But illegal immigrants move beyond the ' border'.

Maybe they are a called by local Cops when they pick up someone they suspect ?

Border patrol operates within 100 miles (direct line) from all national borders.

The Gulf of Mexico isn't that far from Baton Rouge.

This, the border with Mexico isn't the only border of our country

I lived by Foxy's around 2001 and one time the van rolled down South Park and there were brown people running in all directions.

Do they just look at cars and say "that one looks like it's got Mexicans in it"

Any combo of the following:

I was wondering the same thing. I drove through three or four checkpoints on the way to California and back, and they never stopped me. Who do they pick to stop?

Even so, if they are towing a car within the applicable laws of the roadway, it's fairly straightforward profiling if they pull them over for no legal reason.

I got pulled over near Slidell.

Saw an unmarked truck on the median just chilling and I must have looked at him wrong, because about 5 miles later I get boxed in by 3 SUVS.

They search my vehicle, and I know that they thought they hit pay dirt because when they opened my truck, I had this huge gray plastic sealed waterproof briefcase.

They have me come to the back to look at it and ask me what it is, and I started laughing. It was just a piece of environmental monitoring equipment and I was on my way to the Shell Refinery in Mobile. Explained to them that I'm drug tested every 6 months, but I appreciate their efforts in fighting drug trafficking.

Border Patrol actually has a nice standalone field office off Sherwood behind the Dairy Queen.
