They will still hire an h-1B even if you're qualified

I know many who have applied, but not a single person whose been hired. It seems the only people who meet their requirements could easily go out of state and make twice what IBM pays.

Same. It is almost always mentioned on other websites as one of the worst companies to work for.

I wouldn't even presume the hiring managers have any real hiring authority for the most part.

What does C++ average out into GPA? All of these new grading systems are screwed up these days.

don't worry

volod couldn't program a VCR

Oddly enough I vetted this fricking OTard when he first came on board and was goofy enough to share real details and a letter to a Mr [volod's real last name].

I got to diggin via the google operators(I'm a wiz) and I found he was in fact an alumni of Tech and he does have various Programming languages under his belt. I also found his mom's public Facebook page. Looks like they're good people But....

TLDR Volod is a fricking retard.

I don't think you know much about this topic. Everyone of the engineers I know that work/have worked there are white guys in their 20s and lower 30s.

I noticed IBM has some interesting jobs in IT and programming. However, I am having some difficulty locating the hiring managers for different work sites.

Do any of you know how the hiring process operates with IBM?

You know, various IBM locations specialize. You need to figure out what the locations are doing and decide which location is for you, or which technology.

I have targeted employers.
Fireman's Fund. I did that. I liked their location in Marin, CA.
I was in Chicago's northern suburbs designing databases for Kemper.
I met Firemans Fund at IBM's SET committee in Denver. I really liked them.
I set up two interviews in Marin and one in SF. The first Marin project leader hired me.

My brief IBM exposure:
I worked a couple of contracts side by side with IBMers and they told me they could just make it happen. They described conditions as being utterly demanding. I did not accept the offer.
It was the equivalent of being a Green Beret. ALL-IN. rah rah.
Northwestern Mutual reminds me of that. like a religion.

I had the same thing happen with Bechtel. I worked alongside a guy at Bechtel on a couple of contracts and later he was head of an IT group at BC. Offered double my salary to go with him. What had happened at Bechtel was that I was maintaining a database, and in my spare time I invented tools for the staff to use. Those tools were solutions to problems I observed them to be having. So I wrote code that they could just plug into. I had to first learn the local language they wrote tools in. The guy who later offered me taught me the basics and I took it and ran with it.
I also taught junior programmers other languages they were working on.

I also got an unsolicited offer from a software company for which I had done beta testing. they said my comments about their materials were the best ever.
And I wrote a set of programs to test and report changes re their latest database releases. Now they use my idea in their current product offerings. I explained what I did when they came out one time.

Do you work in IT already?

One thing I know, you can target IBM. figure out some combination of various technologies you want to do that they need and just do that in the evenings.
the key is to be the first on your block. If you can get your current employer to buy you a one year IBM education pass, you can pick up pretty much anything new and be an expert in a year.

I tried to give you some ideas how you might hook up with IBM. write critiques of something they are doing. go to a class. schmooze.

main thing that always works is to be the first on your block. read what's going on.

and be in great shape. train. make your health a priority. if you get in with IBM you will need peak performance.

And what the heck makes you think IBM is right for you anyhow?

Like any job out there. Who do you know?

Best way to get in touch with hiring managers is to bug the shite out of them on LinkedIn. Maybe, just maybe you'll get a phone interview.

My father has worked in HR at IBM for almost 40 years. My brother in law works there too...I know a good deal about how IBM works. I exaggerated a little in my original post, for the sake of humor. Making reference of the "protected class" when talking about the hiring process at major corporations is a common joke. Life is too short, laugh a little.

Better have tons of experience

My old roommate has worked there since the new building opened and definitely didn't have a 3.9 or 4.0. He's been promoted a few times and is doing fine.

The best advice anyone can give you as it seems you might want to start job hopping after college. Stay where you are at and put up with the bull until you get some experience under your belt. Get a few years under your belt where you can be seen as a value to a business. If you keep wanting to hop from job to job it will make it hard in the future for you.
