It's because they saw how many times you logged into check on it, decided to screw with you. Do not be surprised if the package is full of feces upon opening.

It just does not make any sense; it had already arrived to a Louisiana USPS facility 51 miles away from Covington, and then sent out of state to Dallas and Austin, Texas? UGH!

Haven't worked for USPS but did work for DHL/Airborne Express many years ago. Here's what likely happened:

Your package was supposed to get sorted from the Memphis DC to a spot on the Northshore. It got thrown in the bin for River Parishes.

Gets to St. Rose for sort. Sorter/computer realizes it's not for this area. Instead of it getting put in the local bin, it went into the "send back to sort center" bin.

For St. Rose, that must be Dallas. Its now working its way through the system as normal from Dallas to Covington.

Damn you USPS!

Ordered something Saturday said it’d be here today. So looking at my delivery tracking today I see it was shipped USPS. Uh-oh.

Sure enough later in the day delivery instructions changed to delayed now expected Wednesday!

They deliver my mail all over the place. Plus they don’t like making package deliveries.

This is frustrating

I do, but I can't answer your question just yet, because I am going to lunch for 2 hours. Now let me put my sign up in the front window...

My favorite now is overnight mail, it is no longer next day. I had to ship some documents overnight and get to the post office at noon and they tell me it is 2 days to get to Kansas City overnight and it will leave tomorrow, so it is about as slow as priority mail.

Might have to use FedEx or UPS if it didn’t cost a small fortune.

The fact that you did this to save $11 tells me you cannot be trusted.

A few years ago, this rarely occurred.

Just received my package yesterday.
After Dallas, it went to Houston for a couple of days, then to Baton Rouge, then finally here to Covington.

I wish you could have preferred or excluded shipping methods when ordering stuff.

This would be the answer, but a lot of times these other carriers "hand off" stuff to USPS anyway for the final delivery.

Yes, but once you've solved the problem of getting it to the delivery post office for the mail carrier, all of the other logistics about sorting centers, etc., just get skipped around. An efficient private carrier delivers it to the proper "final mile" post office, avoiding the Dallas/Chicago/Jackson/Houston/New Orleans/Dallas/Oklahoma City/Covington routing.

That's what I figured, but how would a regular person know or control that?

We had a check returned after 3 weeks mailed to a post office box inside the post office. I took it to the PO and the clerk said she would run it back thru the system. I told her the box is 20 feet to your right, can you just go put it in the box? She got a sheepish grin and put it in the box.

They wouldn’t but I’m thinking situational awareness. If you knew you took the parcel to the post office for inspection then get a letter denying the claim due to parcel not being presented for inspection, that’s when you’ve got to tell yourself, I did take it up there so maybe they didn’t do what they are supposed to do when I did that, and either call or go back and ask them why the denial letter is saying that.
When a parcel is presented for inspection at a post office, management is supposed go into the computer and using the claim number or tracking number, update the case by letting it know you presented the parcel for inspection.
