I just make fishing lures and dgaf about everybody else. Ive found that I am better off with the simple life. I do everything myself and I only have me to count on
Did the corporate thing but did not want that life
I give a shite about my career but its not like I have a regular job

You’ve got a long way to go. You should probably change fields.
I did a career change at 39 and it is the bedt thing that ever happened to me professionally.

I only work for the money.
“I like money.”
“I like money.”

Nope, I like money and always want more of it.

My primary business that I own is absolutely burning me out. Great money, but clients make the job so difficult. I have two business side hustles that I love way more than my primary business and want to start shifting to those long term.
Life is way too short to spend your life making someone else money, though. I see no issues with coasting when you're working for the man and are making enough to support you and your family.

2022 was the best, most impactful year of my career. It required a lot of long hours, nights and weekends, and at least one holiday where I had to work. I routinely worked through meals and took meetings at odd hours to accommodate colleagues and clients in all US and European time zones. I took very little PTO and responded to calls during my time off. I delivered everything on time and all of my clients were very pleased. I made sure my colleagues were successful. I coached all of my reports well and signed up new clients. My quarterly feedback was excellent, with amazing reviews and glowing statements from my leads.
Then my officially year end feedback was merely “above average”, which puts me in a much lower bonus pool. Lower than in past years with no explanation.
My new attitude is that my computer and phone are turned off at 6:00PM and your last minute bullshite can wait until tomorrow.

Aka, we are fricking you because we don't want to pay more in bonuses

Yeah.
There have been a lot of complaints this year from people about this practice for 2023. Why not just come out and tell us that the economy sucks and we can’t pay as much in bonuses? Why gaslight excellent people with these artificially lowered ratings after a year of positive feedback?
I think we are going to lose good people over the next 6 months because of this.

I’m 43 and I can retire at age 58. I’m just going to coast for the next 15 years and hope the politicians don’t frick it up too bad.

I’d trade less money for more vacation time. I just don’t have the desire to be at work like I used to. Kids are out of the house and wife’s business is stable. It might finally be time to do my own thing, but the 401K and health insurance prevent it.

I’m 60, and I have advice for you. You only get one life. There is no reason to waste it. If you are not enjoying your work, and/or doing great things at it, you should move on. This applies to the rest of your life, as well.

58 and I will never be responsible for another soul at work for the rest of my career after this gig is done. Been there, done that a long time...I am so done with it. I also am far more interested in time away from work than money and have been for about 5 years or so. I realized I was not going to get wealthy working and I only had a finite amount of time left. I will never fully retire unless its a health issue because I like what I do but I have about 3 years at my main gig now and when it is done I am consulting on 1099s from there on...and ain't being nobodies boss.

I'm 5 years from retirement and am in coast mode. I once loved it. There have been times when I hated it. Now I'm just "Meh, let's get this over with so that I can go what I want to do with the remainder of my life."

I, too, have the hardware store dream, but not big box. Maybe an Ace Hardware in a small town.
