I'm right there with you OP. I'm 35, and I just have no real interest in my work most of the time. Doesn't suck or anything, pretty easy and chill at this point. I work to support my lifestyle, so that is important to me. I give a shite about doing my job to the best of my ability, I am reliable, and I hold myself accountable, and all that, but yeah, I need to find something else. I just have no fricking clue what it is I would want to pivot to.
We are entirely too fricking comfortable in this country.

Don't worry, you won't have to suffer much longer.

Not sure what age you plan to retire but coming from someone at least 20 years older that seems like a helluva long time to coast.
That’s 30 years of coasting.
Now granted if he truly enjoys his job and the tasks assigned, it’s not coasting as he will probably work hard, he just doesn’t want additional responsibilities.

What do you mean by this as it pertains to my post?

I would change careers in a heart beat if I could actually find a Plan B with what I want to do.

My current career involves napping and pooping. the pooping is fine (prune juice every morning) but the napping is the better part of the job. The hounds hop in bed after I have nodded off so I awake to warm hounds.

I have to say i’m pretty burnt out. I think i plateaued in my career around COVID time. I’m in healthcare and i’m just done. Idk if there are any jobs in my field that suck less, either. COVID was an excuse for major organizations to just do what they wanted.

I feel like the rising cost of everything has burned a lot of people out. Just when you think you've got enough saved up for a house, prices or interest rates go up and you're back at square one. Why suffer through the grind when the goalposts keep on moving farther and farther away?

I love my job. I feel sorry you guys.

It's pretty normal to peak before the top in the professional world. Just own it and do your thing.

If you make enough money to be happy and aren’t miserable then who cares? Congrats

Nice! But you need to learn how to grow acid. From what I’m reading, best mental health drug ever. People need to grow up and do coke like an adult.

Unless you are in porn or professional wrestling, no one loves their job. But congrats if you talked yourself into loving your job. You have got to be in liquor sales.

I think the question for me would be would I do this for free? My answer is no

Every year that passes I feel more like Peter from office space. I’m not miserable and don’t hate what I do by any means (finance role within commercial real estate), but at this point I couldn’t care less about advancing in my field / career.
I feel as though my interest and ambition peaked years ago and I’ve just been coasting ever since. I’m approaching my late 30s and wondering, is this it until I can retire or do I switch it up. Problem is I have no other interests in the professional world that I’m currently aware of.
Any of you baws feel the same way?
I am actually miserable, but don’t know what to do. I like the people I work WITH and the people who work under me. I no longer like who I work FOR. Industry environment is a disaster - healthcare. All around a miserable experience as the bits of my job I enjoy are being eroded both intentionally and unintentionally by leadership.
Little younger than you, in early 30s. Have what should be a great job for my age, title, pay, supposed responsibility. Comfortable at this level for a while because it’s still challenging. Don’t think I’m done wanting to advance, just done wanting to advance where I’m at because they’ve made it miserable.

Ok. I have been wrong many times. Im in O&G project management and 50 different people dipping into the same PO and its like trying to wrangle kittens to see what the frick they did is enough to make you insane. And my typing on here is a by-product of dealing with people who don’t care or understand how shite works. Its just the pressure relief valve.

If I won the lottery I would quit my job and my job would become my hobby.

Cheers my friend. Thanks for all the support. Looking forward to finishing up IOE next month. My first flight was a mail haul to Bethel, AK and then landing on a 4000 dirt strip uphill into a gold mine. shite was wild.
