Baton Rouge is a complete mess. Traffic, crime, corruption, government dependence, take your pick.
Broome is an incompetent racist and the Metro Council is a complete shite show. The recent fiasco with the airport director search is just the latest example of their stupidity.

A lot of people don't realize that Baton Rouge is a pretty big engineering town. This has an effect on the city, good and bad. There aren't many beautiful cities that have a ton of refineries and chem plants in them, but those facilities also bring in a lot of well paying jobs.
I started working in BR after college, and have spent my post grad years here. It's hit or miss for the young professional crowd, you have to find things to do. I made a lot of friends my age at work and met new people by going out a lot. Big drinking town. I avoid traffic, but I know it can be bad.
They have a few events that pop up that are fun:
-Brew @ the zoo this weekend
-haunted houses downtown
-boating around false river & tickfaw
-special bar events happen regularly
-music shows @ varsity
-big st paddys day
-several cheap golf courses
-casinos
I enjoy heading out on the weekend with some friends, having a good dinner, and then hitting a bar for a couple hours. That's probably what I would be doing in any other town.

So tell us, where will you live when your (likely) miserable wife forces you to move back to Baton Rouge? Where will your kids go to school? Public? Private? Where will you commute every day to work? Your wife?
What role will you take in government to make some of these changes that you say people in the suburban areas are too lazy/boring/etc to do themselves?
How will you make this city that you love so much (yet haven't lived in ~12+ years) so great? Please tell us so we can all throw our boring support behind your efforts.

Live music that isn’t cover bands
I see what you’re saying. All of the local bands who play around BR regularly are cover bands. But one positive I might add is the Varsity. They get damn good shows year round. Outside of Nola, no other place in the state gets anything close to what the varsity gets. I’ll give them that.
If you want to find good music in this town, it can be found. We have three or four listening rooms, the Manship theatre, Varsity, Spanish Moon, Casinos and others I can't think of right now. It's there if you want it.

I want to run for City Council but Chicken would have to delete my post history.

LSU/UK 2014 at your usual spot. We had a few drinks. Probably would have been better if we'd had coffee and laughs like the old days.

You can just say that you don't have answers, admit to the fact that you are trying to convince yourself this pending move is a good one, and agree that there are plausible reasons as to why some people may not LOVE Baton Rouge, or wish there were serious changes.
And it is impossible to get personal when I don't know you... its the internet, toughen up.

I like BR. Living where I live and working where I work I don't really deal with the traffic issues everyone complains about. Plenty of restaurants to keep me happy. Several good bars that I frequent. Close to good hunting, fishing, golf. LSU obviously. I'm a pretty simple guy though. I don't need axe throwing joints or a different bar for every night of the year.
That being said, our leadership is steadily getting shittier and price of living is steadily getting higher. Real bad combo when looking towards the future. Especially to those who might not have the means to hang around.

The current city leadership is helping to drive out the very people who could "save" Baton Rouge. North Baton Rouge is a wasteland and a lost cause. No amount of money Broome tries to pump into it will change anything, because the majority of the people who live there don't give a shite. While pandering to the criminals and lowlifes, Broome has alienated the people whose tax revenues fund the majority of the CIP in the city/parish.

I've lived in Nashville, Atlanta, Florida and Baton Rouge.
BR isn't nearly as bad as y'all make it out to be, but I did move out right after graduation so...
LSU is definitely the crown jewel of that town.
