Does anyone else get irrationally angry when an outsider bashes Nola?

I went to a fancy dinner tonight with a few folks. It was the kind of dinner where Michelin stars are brought up and have you been to such and such place and do you know Thomas Keller? So the table gets to me. Where is your favorite place to eat? I say Nola. No question. And that if it doesn’t involve butter and heavy cream you can fricking keep it and your stars.
One guy pipes up, “new Orleans doesn’t have any stars because you can’t keep that place safe”
I wanted to fight him on the spot.
Say what you want but Nola will always be home for me and I can’t stand it when people bad mouth her.
Anyone else here like that? Maybe I’m just tipsy and still hungry thanks to the tiny portions at dinner but I can’t be the only one, right?

New Orleans is polarizing. It was one of the great American cities, but has had a major slide. There are still many elements of its greatness, food included, but the warts are visible to all outsiders.

I mean he’s not wrong. It’s disgusting. I’m from Jackson and it’s an absolute shithole. Truth sucks.

The reason you get "irrationally angry" is because you know it's the truth. Otherwise, it wouldn't bother you.

New Orleans could be so much cooler if it could clean its act up. Great city with a great history and culture, anyone saying otherwise is an idiot. Anyone denying its faults is also an idiot. I have an odd fascination with it. Hope to see it reach its full potential in my lifetime.

It’s like an outsider talking about family. I might not particularly like a family member, but someone I don’t know can’t just come in and trash family. There’s plenty of things about New Orleans and Louisiana I don’t like but that doesn’t mean I won’t take up for Louisiana as a whole.
