Does Affirmative Action actually do the opposite of it's definition?

Isn't the definition of affirmative action to hire without any regard to race, religion, ect.? So by making sure quotas are met for each race isn't it doing the exact opposite of it's definition and taking race into account? How do you come up with a truly equal opportunity system?
Obviously if you could go completely anonymous and just merit based on all job/college applications would work but how do you achieve that?

Affirmative Action

Affirmative Action is social justice with all the ills that go along with it. Its simply a feel good government intrusion into private commercial activity. If it were equally distributed, then it wouldn't be as distasteful. "minority" owned businesses and minority schools are not held to the same requirements.

No

The contractor will not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment because of race, creed, color, or national origin. The contractor will take affirmative action to ensure that applicants are employed, and that employees are treated during employment, without regard to their race, creed, color, or national origin. Such action shall include, but not be limited to, the following: employment, upgrading, demotion or transfer; recruitment or recruitment advertising; layoff or termination; rates of pay or other forms of compensation; and selection for training, including apprenticeship. The contractor agrees to post in conspicuous places, available to employees and applicants for employment, notices to be provided by the contracting officer setting forth the provisions of this nondiscrimination clause.
Do you read Executive Order 10925 differently?

Not really.

It was definitely needed at the time

Affirmative Action exists today because it keeps a nation divided.

Nope. Affirmative action was implemented with the idea that certain groups (in large part due to institutional racism / inequality of opportunity in prior generations) were still at a systemic disadvantage even if they technically now had equal rights. Affirmative action by definition considers race and other characteristics.

What you quoted has nothing to do with the policy of Affirmative Action we are talking about.

Let's be honest, it was needed at one time.
When you look at just black people. Here is a group of people who were brought to this country to be free labor. They were not educated and not only did they own or have anything, they were considered property.
Once they were freed, they had little opportunity to become educated, to grow wealth, etc. Until the 1960s they still didn't have the same rights as white people, but even after that... and to some degree you can still argue this still happens, but there were/are people who didn't/will not hire someone simply because of their color.
It happened a lot more before AA, but how do you expect people to get ahead or be able to provide for themselves if there is very limited opportunity out there? Something had to be done. Obviously things are much better than they were, but I do think there still needs to be some type of check and balance. I don't think it should be the system that is still in place, but it should protect qualified people, from getting passed up because of their race.. Not sure how that can be done.
But the most qualified people should get jobs. No one shouldn't hire someone less qualified because of the most qualified person's color and no one should get hired if they are the less qualified, just because of their color.

LeBron James' kids would be eligible for affirmative action scholarships/jobs. Does that make any sense?

Don’t allow folks to put their race on any application, form, or document and hire based on qualifications. This should also be the same for college applications.

Nope. Not the definition at all.

Well for one thing you don’t give an employer a reason to think you’re going to cry sexual harassment/assault if someone bumps into you on the hallway.

Pretty sure we don’t have affirmative action anymore. EEO nulllifies it.
