Colossal Biosciences has now announced the third animal on its de-extinction list – the dodo.
The dodo was first discovered in 1598 by Dutch explorers on the then-uninhabited island of Mauritius – and less than a century later it was extinct. The deadly combination of human hunting and introduced animals like dogs and cats, paired with the dodo’s lack of fear and flight, made them one of the earliest and clearest case studies in human-driven extinction.

This is not a good idea. Usually there are valid reasons why things go extinct and bringing them back is not a good idea

Bring them back and farm them like chickens. Hell, this may be the answer to the egg shortage.

Kind of like the penguins on Macquarie Island. They had no contact or interaction with humans, and therefore didn't fear them. They'd just waddle right up to humans, originally there as sealers, and the humans just whacked them with clubs. At first, the penguins were just a nuisance, as the main reason for being on the island was the processing of seals. Eventually, they figured out they could get oil from the penguins and there was minimal effort required to hunt them. They damn near wiped them out on the island.
Episode 207 of The Dollop podcast "The Animal Horrors of Macquarie Island" is a good one.

I kinda get the idea behind the mammoth (preservation of permafrost) but why are we doing this for the Dodo? Just because we feel bad about it’s inability to adapt to humans?
