How selfish can a person be? Why the frick would he take her with him? A lovely person that cared for children. Gone.
What an incredibly disgusting act of violence. Gut wrenching. Terrible.
I have had the pleasure of knowing the elder Spahts through an organization we were both of a part of in very different capacities, but that entire family were always pleasant, nice, genuine, respectful people. I can’t think of a negative interaction I ever had with them. I can’t say they were friends, but after 50+ interactions, I can’t think of a single negative experience with them. This hurts my heart for them.

KVUE article in Austin
AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department confirmed that two doctors are dead following a reported hostage situation at a pediatrician's office that lasted about six hours on Tuesday. The APD said it was a murder-suicide.
The APD said the SWAT situation happened at 1912 W. 35th St. near MoPac Expressway and 35th Street, which is the same location as Children's Medical Group, a pediatric office.
KVUE has learned the victim in this incident was Dr. Katherine Lindley Dodson, a 43-year-old provider at Dell Children's.
According to her biography on Dell Children's website, Dr. Dodson was a pediatric doctor affiliated with Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas. Dodson's medical practice was based out of Children's Medical Group, the site of the hostage incident.
She completed her undergraduate education at Washington and Lee University, went to medical school at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, New Orleans, and participated in a residency program at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.
KVUE has also learned that the suspect in this case is Dr. Bharat Narumanchi, also 43 years old. Narumanchi, along with Dodson, died in the reported hostage situation. Police said that Narumanchi killed Dodson before killing himself.
The Austin PD said at a briefing the following day that they do not know why Narumanchi took her hostage. However, police have learned that the suspect had terminal cancer and had applied for a volunteer position at Dodson's office prior to the hostage situation. Police do not know of any other connection between Narumanchi and Dodson other than that volunteer inquiry.
According to St. Joseph Heritage Healthcare, Narumanchi was a pediatrician with office locations in California. He completed coursework with St. George's University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Tripler Army Medical Center.
On Jan. 26, someone called 911 to report that a man had walked into the doctor's office with a gun and was holding hostages inside. Five employees, including Dr. Dodson, were held hostage. Several were able to escape and others were later allowed to leave, leaving Dodson as the sole hostage.
Hostages who had escaped reported to officers that Narumanchi was armed with a pistol and what appeared to be a shotgun and had two duffel bags.
Hostage negotiators made several attempts to make contact with Narumanchi, but he was not responsive. Later, the two doctors were found with gunshot wounds.

If I thought you had a basic understanding of the meaning of the term "respect", I might get into a dialogue with you about it - but you obviously do not - otherwise you would not have posted anything on this thread which was about the tragic murder of Katherine Spaht's daughter -

KATV Article
AUSTIN, Texas (KEYE) — The Austin Police Department says an hours-long SWAT standoff at a central Austin doctor's office that ended with two people dead began when the gunman, himself a doctor, took hostages in the office.
It happened at the Children's Medical Group building on 1912 W. 35th St. near Mopac around 4:30 on Tuesday.
According to police, a 911 caller reported that 43-year-old Dr. Bharat Narumanchi entered the office with a gun and was holding hostages inside.
Officers learned there were several hostages in the building, and some were able to escape.
However, police learned that Narumanchi, had been diagnosed with terminal cancer, was still holding 43-year-old Dr. Katherine Lindley Dodson hostage.
Hostages that escaped reported to officers that Narumanchi, a pediatrician himself, had been to this office a week ago and applied for a volunteer position.
They also reported he was armed with a pistol and what appeared to be a shotgun and had two duffel bags.
Hostage negotiators arrived on scene and attempted to make contact with Narumanchi, to no avail. After several attempts, it was decided to make entry into the building.

Bharat Narumanchi, 43, went to Children’s Medical Group on West 35th Street just before 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, when he "displayed a gun immediately," the Austin Police Department (APD) said in a press release.
Five people were inside the office at taken hostage at the time, police said, though no patients or children were present. Narumanchi "told the hostages to tie themselves up," Austin Police Lt. Jeff Greenwalt told reporters during a news conference Wednesday.
Dr. Katherine Lindley Dodson was "not able to escape" and was then the only person held hostage with Narumanchi, Greenwalt said.
When SWAT units arrived at the scene, they "were not able to make contact with anybody inside, were not able to establish communication and we're not able to hear anything as far as a disturbance or calls for help or gunshots," Greenwalt said. "Several hours later, when SWAT was able to get eyes inside of the business to see what was going on, we were able to see that both subjects were deceased."
It’s unclear what led to the deaths or who was inside the building, though a negotiator speaking into a loudspeaker had said: "I want to help you work through this. You have saved a lot of lives."
Austin police eventually sent in a robot, which identified a victim before a SWAT team decided to go inside.
Police believe Narumanchi fatally shot Dodson, also 43, before turning the gun on himself.

Four of the hostages, all of whom were employees, were able to get out, either by escaping or after Narumanchi released them before authorities arrived, police said.

Regardless of your feeling about Louisiana’s law relative custody and child support , note that Kate Spaht is an genuinely good human being who viewed everything from the concept of protecting the marriage and children of the marriage. For 30 plus years she chaired the family section of the civil code committee and drafted most of the revisions that took place during that time. We don’t have quickie divorces in Louisiana , absent cause, because her research indicates many marital issues resolved during the mandated separation period. Joint legal custody is the law because her research indicates having both parents participate resulted in a better upbringing for the child. She made sure that the civil code actually stated that marriage is between one man and one woman. She also made sure it stated that birth began at conception , with a lesson acquiring legal rights at conception. She is responsible for getting rid of the concept of “bastard” children by creating presumptions of paternity. Then as science changed, she modernized the code to include mechanism to rebut the presumptions. Maybe one of the nicest people you will ever meet, let alone one of the smartest (as recognized by her peers). An extremely beautiful woman , whose only blemish consisted of being an Ole Miss graduate. Also, note that she hasn’t been the chair for 5-10 years, so take up any issues on the lack of changes with the current chair. You should also look at the statistics in our state as it relates to single mothers given birth , unemployed mothers and low income households. It’s difficult to create a law that works perfectly for everyone. Child support and custody are probably the two areas where it is the most difficult to create laws that work perfectly for everyone. The law that works well for the single mother with job , doesn’t for the divorced couple where the wife was cheating , got the kids, has a job and issues the money to find a lifestyle. We all get it, but don’t knock a lesson because they created something to work best for the majority as opposed to you.

Your crusade sound similar to the idiots who protest at funerals. Time and place. This ain’t either. Beyond that , joint custody is the law. Joint physical custody is preferred, unless you have something going one that suggests it’s not in the best interest of your children. Joint physical has an extremely fair child support formula. If you are not benefiting from it, it’s not Kate Spaht’s fault. It’s your fault or your attorney. My guess from the uncouth and unsympathetic tone of your post —it’s you Lickity.

It's Spaht(Spate), not Sphat
This is horrible news. Heartbreaking. Know the family well. Katherine(mom) is one of a kind and a wonderful person. No family deserves this.
