Can hunt black bear in Louisiana now. That would be pretty cool.

I grew up hunting but years of competitive shooting burned me out. Particularly after college I was done for a while, I didn't care at all about shooting for about 5 years. I got back into competitive shooting in my late 20s and kept it up until COVID but never got back into hunting. Somewhere along the line I admitted to myself I found it boring and I preferred the competition against humans if I was going to shoot.

Yup it’s awesome! Keeps me active and I also enjoy the work that goes into it. Cutting trails, shed hunting, keeping the shooting lanes trimmed.

And to think most young men out on this, and they don't even know it.

I’m very much from the Ron White school on this: I have no issue murdering innocent woodland creatures; the issue is that it’s really early in the morning, when it’s really cold outside, and I don’t want to go.

Nah, you’re so masculine you have other men do it for you

Uh, 2 totally different methods of hunting.

Also deer have at least 30#’s of deboned meat. What size deer are you killing bud?

I tried it when I was younger. Just never was the type to have the ability to stay quiet or still enough. My passion now is guitar.

No interest in hunting but I think I would enjoy just sitting in a stand for a few hours just enjoying the silence and observing nature.

For you dudes that dont feel like killing stuff.

I've "shot" many a deer with my deer rifle where I just dry fired (cock the gun and shoot it without a bullet in). No blast, no field dressing, no worrying about getting to the processor. And through the scope, I tell myself if it was a good shot or not. Funny enough, I think its made me a better shot. Sometimes you just pull a shot, I cant explain it. I can see it through my scope, where I was totally distracted by the blast before.

Go get some quiet, enjoy God's creation, fulfill your primal urge with a dry fire shot, and go watch college football. You really cant beat it.

Of course this is after my freezer has been filled.

I feel like the vast majority of hunting fanatics are dudes who use it as an excuse to ditch their wife and kids for the weekend.

How does one who’s never hunted get into hunting? I could give it a shot. I know I can’t just get a gun and walk into some random woods.

Sure you can. You can hunt public land with the required license and/or permits.

But I’d suggest you find a friend who hunts and ask to tag along with them.

Afternoon hunts are alright, but waking up at 5 o'clock in the morning on my day off is definitely not something that gets me excited.
