Do your credit card chip fail to work at some places?

I just recently got a new Amex for business use. First time I use it the thing isn't working at office depot

I think a lot of the machines are just shitty

Mine works too well. Every time I turn around I see another "your Amazon order for something that you didn't need but we priced it low enough that your wife has convinced herself that you do need it" email in my Gmail.

I really hate those chips.

Mine worked for about a month, and has never worked since...

There are two spots I go frequently where my chip card always comes back declined. Happy hour type places. I just have to use my debit card at those places. It works fine everywhere else.

That card worked fine everywhere for a long time, and one day, at both of these spots, on opposite sides of town, just suddenly started coming back declined.

It's been about a year now, and every once in a while we'll try the credit card to see if the "glitch" was fixed, and every time, declined.

Not a "no read" ... but actual "declined".


About ten years ago I experienced a similar phenomenon, only at Wendys... any Wendy's I went to would say my card was declined. This was before you could look up your balance on your phone. Every time I called, the bank said everything is fine, your card wasn't declined, yada yada. But every damn Wendy's for about four years would say my card came back declined.

I used to go to a specific grocery store and all of the chip readers were loose or not working properly for months.
