Levi's CEO explains why you should never wash your jeans

quote:

Laundry is inevitable, but thankfully there are people like Levi’s CEO and President Chip Bergh who want to make our lives a little easier. According to him, you should never wash a pair of jeans. Ever.

While this may prompt noises of disgust from those are less-then-enamoured by the idea of walking around in dirty clothes, Mr Bergh explained that he "spot cleans" any stains with a toothbrush.

Speaking to Fortune in a video that was recently re-shared on social media he said: "The point I was trying to make… it was a wake-up call to consumers that we go into autopilot and after we’re finished wearing something, we just automatically toss it into the laundry.

"A good pair of denim doesn’t really need to be washed in the washing machine except for very infrequently or rarely."

Critical analysis is undertaken as to how much gas I pass into them using time weighted averages (TWAs). After reviewing the data, a decision to wash or not to wash is made then sent to the journal of American Denim for peer review. Once the comment period closes, the second review is performed and fiber samples sent to Lapcorp. Ultimately the heap of textile will be burned in an incinerator and a new pair manifested for additional gas passing trials.

Ummm, yes.

The proper way to wash premium blue jeans is to turn them inside out, wash in cold water only and never use fabric softener.

The proper way to wash them is by hand. And rarely.

Well, I prefer clean clothes and today’s denim is made with washing in mind. I have rather expensive taste in clothes and have premium denim in fantastic shape after 10 years.

I'll normally wear jeans like 4 or 5 times before I wash them.

You might get them from an expensive store, but if they're made with washing in mind, that isn't the best.

High quality raw denim is the best. And that is definitely not meant for a washing machine and detergent.

High end brands use a higher quality blend of cotton and spandex (to hold shape) and dyes. Not to mention more flattering cuts and pocket placement. Average prices range from $150 - $300 without getting into couture.

Wtf is this. There are guys out there spot cleaning jeans with a toothbrush to avoid washing them? Are they made of some rare earth element or something?

I don't often wash slacks or jeans.
Every other month for jeans if I had to guess.

Spandex isn't denim.

I have jeans like this too, but that isn't the best denim.
